Synced content disappeared with latest updates (chromebook)

We know the problem. The fix has been a bit challenging.

Hopefully you guys can get a fix in, sucks that is not straight forward. My Chromebook (ASUS 434) is also having this issue, was trying to sync for a trip I’m taking in a few days and couldn’t find the download button. My wife’s Chromebook, which I believe is x86 is still working, so we may have to use that for the time being.

Last version doesn’t fix the problem.

9 months…testing beta streams…still waiting

@anon18523487 So its been another month. What progress has been made?

Sorry, there is no update. The devs are still working on trying to find a fix.

I’m about to buy a chromebook and one of the primary reasons was to use with Plex when travelling (killing two birds with one stone). I’m glad I searched before hitting the button and pruchasing, then being disappointed.

It would appear from reading the above that it works for some and not others based on device (i.e. I think Intel based chromebooks work).

Can someone provide me with a definitive answer as to what will work and what won’t work.

This was initially raised as a problem 8 months ago. Does working on it mean it is being worked on, or is it like really low on the bug-fix backlog and chances of it being fixed in the next few months is very unlikely.

FYI. I was considering buying a Lenovo Ideapad Duet which is ARM based (MediaTek P60T (8C, 4x A73 @2.0GHz + 4x A53 @2.0GHz))

ARM based seem to be working, it’s Intel that is not.

Don’t block you from buying a device you would want because a specific software maker don’t care to fix a 8 months old well documented bug. Change the software you are using, I’m seriously pissed of this. We’ve been patiently waiting since ~Nov. 2020 and we barely had an acknowledge of the problem. Not even a god damn partial fix or workaround…

I had to get Yatse who seems to be able to get their ■■■■ together with plex sync to workaround this bug and hope to have everything available for the summer trips with the familly.

Thanks Plex, I always hated seeing people shitting on devs and Plex as a whole on reddit but let’s get this straight, you must be more transparent with bug reports and efforts you put or don’t put on any of them. Why most company have a public bug tracking system and in 2021 we’re still tracking this issue in a forum thread ? Could we have access to your Usenet or maybe you guy’s have something reachable on the ARPANET so we can try to sync with you ?

Joke aside Plex is not what it once was and it’s a shame. I have the feeling the next step is a monthly subscription fee and that would be the end.

Speaking of 8 months with no progress, its been a couple more weeks @anon18523487 , any updates or progress to report?

I’ve given up. Switched to Emby.
I have to pay for the option to download, but I was already paying for Plex… so, canceling Plex and switching to one that works.
Already having less problems and better performance on both my Android TV units, all my Chromebooks, and my Samsung phone too (have yet to test on the Android Tablets, but I’m guessing better performance there too)

Such a shame, I used to love Plex and share glowing reviews with all my friends. No longer, I will be asking for a refund on my lifetime pass, or else I will be contesting the credit card charge as they are not delivering on the features I paid for and they have had ample time to fix this issue. Time to check out Emby and other alternatives. I will also be filing a BBB complaint.

I feel the same. I used to tell everyone to get Plex, but not anymore. It’s usually a vague recommendation accompanied by a number of watch points. I wouldn’t jump ship but this issue is not the first problem I’ve had with Offline Syncing. It just seems to be an ongoing headache. Android in general has never worked right for me, no matter what I tried to fix it.

Would it help to place a financial bounty on this bug? I’m down to PC and Android that I can still use w/o some sort of feature limitation existing for months. Roku and Chromebook clients both have serious long standing unaddressed bugs. What’s it going to take?

FYI

Too bad you need to go into the “Downloads & Sync” section, then “Manage” → Gear Settings screen to enable this feature. Simply trying to open “Manage” causes the app to crash on Chrome, so there is no way to enable this new feature because of the problems described in this thread.

The new Downloads does not fix the issue for x86_64 devices. Sorry. Still working on it.

The new “Downloads” functionality does not support casting. Casting from the old “Sync” functionality was also pretty flaky in recent versions (imho). Is this the end of being able to cast sync’d/downloaded content or is there a plan to re-introduce/fix the original feature?

For me and my family, the ability to take content with us and cast to a Roku or chromecast when on holidays has been a very valuable feature.

Casting is something we hope to be able to add back in the near future.
