On DSM 7 upgrade (and Plex Upgrade) PMS works fine both locally and remotely for Movies and Music. However, normal JPG images (photos) will not display in full-screen size and I get the error message “Unable to load photo”
The Thumbnails and image previews all render properly and permissions have been properly set 'for SYSTEM INTERNAL USER.
A friend has the EXACT setup of a 1019+ and configurations are identical. His PMS displays photos full screen properly. I have moved my photos to his setup and they display properly, so the issue is not with the images.
The images will not display locally (other than thumbnails) nor remotely.
Update: Turns out that PMS – for reasons unknown to me – will not show any photos that are in the /volume1/photo folder. It would show the thumbnails, but not the images themselves – either network internally or remotely. Once I moved those photos to another share, Plex could immediately display them properly, both internally and remotely.
Dont ask me why.
I did notice that the PERMISSIONS for \volume1\photo looked different than the permissions editing box for any other folder.
My other PMS libraries are found under \Volume1\data\media\movies (and other media types)
I could not establish a photo library on PMS under \volume1\photo
Someone may have an idea why this is so. Is it a bug? Is it designed to do this?
Hi, I just had a similar problem. I was able to resolve it by granting Custom permissions (“Read” and “Write” but without “Delete subfolders and files” and “Delete” selected) to the “PlexMediaServer” system internal user on my “\Volume1\Photos” share (note I don’t use “\Volume1\photo”).
