Unable to load photos - Synology DSM 7.1

When trying to view photos from a folder on Synology NAS, I can see thumbnails of all the photos, but when I try to view the photos, I get a message “Unable to open photos”.

Any suggestions to fix this problem?

Permissions is usually the problem.

  1. DSM 7 – we grant permission to “PlexMediaServer” now.
  2. If you’re using the Synology-provided Photo shared folder – This will almost always fail. Photo Station claims the folder and resets Plex’s permissions.
    – The solution is to create a new shared folder (slightly different name) and move your photos here (and give PlexMediaServer permission)
