I just bought a Synology DS218+ and I’m trying to set up Plex. I previously had no issues with an Asustor until the unit died on me.
I downloaded the Plex Media Server for Synology from Plex’s site and did a manual install on my Synology NAS. Seemingly no problems with the installation.
However when I click the Plex icon to launch the app within Synology’s UI, it opens a new browser tab and takes me to the Plex login page. I log in using my usual Plex credentials and it shows the error:
No soup for you!
The server you’re trying to access doesn’t want to let you in. Make sure you’re signed in as a user with access to this server.
I can then navigate around within my Plex account just fine but it won’t locate the Plex server on my Synology NAS.
It sounds like some kind of permissions issue on my NAS but since I’m brand new to Synology I have no idea where to start. I’m not finding much online in searches either…Any ideas?
I solved my problem: I was connecting to my Synology using Dynamic DNS, even when connecting locally. You can’t set up the Plex server on your NAS going through the DDNS address. You have to use the LAN IP/port for your NAS. Everything has worked since for me!
I solved my issue.
My NAS has 2 LAN interfaces, one is addressed in 192.168.0.x and second is 192.168.1.x. The primary is the first one, while my laptop was connected to the second one. I got errors 401 Unauthorized from the first interface, and then Plex app switches to 127.0.0.1 (which is invalid anyway). When I connected my laptop to the first subnet (via WiFi), then it started to work. It discovered the server and I could finally add it and index folders.
I hope it help sombebody (keyword I looked for was “Unauthorized” and “no soup for you”)
This helped me out as well. When you click on the link in Synology the URL is something like mydomain.synology.me:3400/…
When you try to login it says no soup for you.
Simply change the “mydomain.synology.me” to the name of your Synology NAS on the local network. Then it should work.
When you map your folders, make sure that the “plex” user has access to the folder and all subfolders and files.
Simply change the “mydomain.synology.me” to the name of your Synology NAS on the local network. Then it should work.
Or just enter in the IP address of your NAS. If people don’t know what that is, they may want to consider reading up on how to reserve an IP address on their specific router for a connected device. You’re going to want it to always connect with the same LAN IP.
I had the same issue, this was because I connected to the Synology NAS from another VLAN, as soon as I put my laptop on the same VLAN I did not have any trouble.
