Synology / No access to Server

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876-3c3adfcb4

I recently got a Synology NAS DS218play to put my plex server on. I had an old hard drive from a WD My Book that I took out and put in my Synology. I erased everything and started new and loaded the latest version of Plex Media Server to the NAS but I can’t get it to connect to my plex account. Any time I go in it says I don’t have access to the server.

I have gone into the shared folders and made sure that plex had permission to read and write on the folders.

I have read so many forms and still can’t figure it out. I’m not super techy but I can get my way around things if given instructions.

Thanks in advance!

@natehenrie

Please explain a bit more about not having access. There are a few different scenarios.

Is it “No Soup”?
Is it where you don’t have Server settings access?
Something else?

Yes, it says No soup for you!

Its when I am trying to connect the server to my account.

I have tried going to http://[Server IP Address]:32400/web instead of just clicking on the button.

I have reset the server like 4 times and nothing seems to help. I have reset my modem and router too.

Share some more info please.

  1. Is the LAN network addressing that you’re using RFC1918 compliant?
    ( 192.168.x.x , 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x )

  2. Are you and the server on that same LAN subnet ?

It a 192.91.xx.xxx How do I change it?

I am not sure about the subnet. How do I look at that?

Sorry, I am not extremely tech savvy.

That is probably handled in your modem/router.

There should be a setting where you can setup the LAN subnet addressing.

It will also probably have the ripple effect of changing the modem/router’s DHCP server.

Don’t forget to check that too. Everything should indicate the same 192.168.x.x. subnet… Most common is 192.168.0.x with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (or also written as /24). You can pick whatever value you want for that 3rd octet as long as everything on the LAN is addressed the same. (DHCP should take care of this if you’re using it)

I usually change the equipment (NAS, etc) first then make them shutdown.

After the modem/router is changed, and the workstation has been restarted, you can confirm the LAN is where you want it.

At that point, power up the rest of the equipment and verify it’s all back to proper under the new subnet addressing.

This is a detail rich change so do take your time.

After making the changes, PMS should be ok with accepting you opening it without restriction because the LAN is now proper “Private Network” compliant.

If it’s not (it will get paranoid if left too long), we can easily fix that.

Ok!!! I will try that. I am connected to the internet via Fiber so they own my modem. I called them to see what I need to do about switching that stuff and they said they couldn’t do that.

They suggested having my modem connect straight to the router and then have that connected to my other devices. So I am going to try that tonight when I get home and I will get back to you if that doesn’t work.

Thanks for your help! I will keep you posted.

That did the trick! Hooking it up so that everything went through my router first helped to allow them to be on the same subnet.

Thanks so much for your help!
