Synology DS918+ Buffering

Server Version#: Version 4.22.2
Player Version#: Plex for Xbox One 2.49.1.70

Hi Everyone,

I have tried everything I can think off and am at my wits end. Can someone please have a look at my logs and tell me why I keep buffering? I have plex setup on my Synology DS918+, I have monitoring setup on the Synology for CPU usage and I am never reaching 100% cpu so I don’t think this is the limitation.

I am using HW acceleration.

I am streaming via ethernet.

Any help would be appreciated.

You say it’ never reaching 100%. Does it sit at a solid 25% minimum ? (1 CPU of a Quad Core)

I see it is transcoding (burning in) subtitles.

-metadata:s:0' 'language=eng' '-codec:0' 'ass' '-f' '

If ASS subtitles are used, (don’t know if an Xbox can accept them natively), Do the settings have subtitles set as Always ?

What happens if you play something without subtitles or them turned off ?

At idle the NAS is sitting at around ~5& CPU usage according to DSM.

According to Plex, during streaming I am fluctuating between 25% and 50% of the system CPU.

Still getting buffering when subtitles are disabled. Also most of my subtitles are SRT or SRT (External)

The example you showed me is ASS (also text based)

If you’re using that much CPU during streaming, then something is set to always burn the subtitles in.

Burning Subtitles is a single-threaded operation.

This accounts for 25% of a quad core CPU by itself.
If audio is transcoding, this will account for another 10-20%
The last bits are the actual streaming

Therefore you must look to see if your ASS subtitles are supported and must also retest SRT subtitles.

Most importantly, Check the player’s settings. Something is calling for or forcing the burn-in operaton.

I notice when running subtitles with truehd audio was transcoding it was stuttering . I just recent purchased 4gb ram to give it a speed boost took care of the stuttering . Also go to package center go to plex server click stop for a minute then click run to reboot server.
