1. Uninstall the DSM 6 package – DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING
2. Upgrade to DSM 7
3. Download Plex from plex.tv/downloads ( DO NOT USE PACKAGE CENTER)

For you: “Scenario 2” is the most likely configuration you have.

It will bark about permissions on the Plex shared folder.

If you make sure you get them right (DO NOT MISS ANY CHECKBOXES) – including “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”

It’ll go well – but might take time.
