Synology "Failed to Run Package Service"

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033-6000
Player Version#: n/a
Synology Version#: 6.2.4.25556 Update 2

My server started playing up a week ago. It crashed but would restart. But then it stopped restarting! When I choose “run” in Package Center I get the notification “Failed to Run Package Service”.

I was 1 version behind so updated manually but that had no effect.

I’ve had a look at the logs and can’t see anything that’s obviously causing the problem.

Suggestions please?

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks @trumpy81. No 3rd party plug-ins but I did recently turn on the iTunes plug-in that comes with the server.

Tried running it again and this time it started! So will turn on debugging and see what happens…

With Plex running I’m only at 20% memory usage so that doesn’t look like the problem.

Will monitor and return!

Mark

So after a while it crashed again and I was unable to restart it. I did as suggested…

  • Uninstalled the Plex package
  • Rebooted the NAS
  • Downloaded the current version
  • Confirmed the checksum
  • Reinstalled the package
  • Tried to Run the package

I got the same “failed to restart package” message again and the log files don’t seem to have anything peculiar in them.

Suggestions please?

Thanks again @trumpy81 for having a look. Much appreciated.
Couldn’t find anything in the log files that provided any more insight on the crashes. Very odd.
Thankfully all working at the moment. Fingers crossed it continues!

Now if I can just get the iTunes import working…
( your long thread on that little topic!).

@trumpy81, you made it clear that all the detail is in there in your closing post! But yet, it could take some time to find all the details…

I think I might need some perl/sed to adjust my 19k entries tho!

M

Thanks. Need to do some testing on some individual items. Files all appear to have spaces replaced with %20 and they’re using unix forward slash rather than windoze backward slash which was a concern.

But I do like to a repeatable pipeline!!

Curious to see what happens with the smart playlists tho. In the XML file they appear to be similarly structured to the normal ones, with just a few extra tags. We’ll see what happens!

M

Do we know why? I’m wondering if I could adjust/simplify the XML to make them work more consistently.
M

Thanks! I’ll give it a go and see what happens!!
