1. Confirm you have everything in the "Plex"shared folder (Library/…/Plex Media Server

2. Uninstall the DSM 7 app — Use the ERASE option (gets rid of the DSM 7 app only)

3. Now follow the permission-granting steps here – VERY important

4. After you’ve granted PlexMediaServer “Full Control” of everything in the Plex share,

5. Now you can install the DSM 7 SPK again
   – It will sit at “installing” while it works
   – be patient. It needs about 3 minutes for each 1000 files you have indexed

As such we require the following two conditions are met we will attempt to automatically migrate you; You have an existing DSM 6-created PMS installation and PMS is installed on the SAME STORAGE VOLUME as the “Plex” shared folder (this is critical) …

After you’re done, you will need to give the new username “PlexMediaServer” permission to read your media (aka. change “Plex” → “PlexMediaServer” )
