Note that I have two NAS units, both identical Synology 920+. One is used for Plex (the other for, well, other). I bought and set up both of them at the same time. Note that I have virtually no working knowledge of Mac (or PC for that matter) networking and NAS protocols. That said, on my iMac, if I wanted to mount them all I had to do was select the computer in the sidebar and all attached devices showed up. Then clicking on either NAS a couple of times and they would mount and stay mounted until the next reboot.
At some point the Plex NAS started behaving differently than the other NAS, for example where it showed up in drive listings (They used to always behave identically and list together).
Earlier this week I migrated my Sonoma iMac to a Sequoia Mac Studio ( yes, I’ve read the rather long thread about Sequoia issues, but it came already installed on the Mac Studio). I randomly picked one movie to test on my office TV (Roku streamer) and wouldn’t you know it, it wouldn’t play. After a little panic I discovered several others play fine so I probably randomly picked a corrupted movie (except it plays fine on the Apple TV 4K???).
OK, so I then noticed that even after I “Mounted” the Plex NAS, it wouldn’t show up on the Finder sidebar like the other NAS. I have to go to network to find the NAS, and enter it from there. While it’s only one more step, I’m more worried why it’s acting differently than the other NAS.
So I did a “Get Info” on both NAS and got the following (Overflow is the “other” NAS). Note that one is mounted via AFP and the Plex NAS is mounted per SMB. First off, no clue why…as I said I know nothing about this stuff. I checked and it’s that way on the iMac I migrated from. So that part is not Sequoia related. So I have to ask…which is better protocol, AFP or SMB, and how do I get the “wrong” one to look like the “right” one.
Just remembered, based on other advise when I asked about migrating, I was told to remove and re-add the library folders so I tried. First library I retied to add failed. So I canceled out. Looking for help here, thanks!
