Synology NAS DS918+ Plex Server crashing once a day

Hi
Plex is quitting once a day and needs to be restarted.
Any Advice ?

Server Version#: DS918+ DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4
Player Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.18.5.2260-056ab4be9-x86_64

Debug logs only. Verbose disabled. PMS Settings -> General -> Show Advanced.

After crash, pull logs & attach entire zip file. PMS Settings -> Manage -> Troubleshooting

Which logs in particular would help because I am having the exact same issue with DS918+ DSM 6.2.2-24922 and PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8-x86_64?

Unknown, since cause of crash is unknown.

Therefore:

Thanks Everyone
Logs attached

Please note: Ive also completed a version update of Plex since a new version was released after my original post.

The log file you attached is from Plex Web, the client.

Please attach Plex Media Server logs, debug only, that cover the time of the crash.

Plex Web → Settings → Manage (scroll to bottom) → Troubleshooting → Download logs. Attach zip file to forum reply.

Thanks Man

  1. Please turn DEBUG logging back on. It is on by default. DEBUG logging does not use more disk space because the buffer length is fixed size. Please DO NOT enable VERBOSE. VERBOSE is used in extreme cases only.

  2. Without the DEBUG logging enabled, only the error is visible for 1 file.

Either PMS isn’t scanning the library’s files and updating or there exists a bigger problem.

Please enable DEBUG as requested above.
Restart Plex
Attempt to recreate the scanning / access problem.
Attach those logs so we may begin diagnosis.

Wait for next Crash so we can see what it was doing prior to the crash.

AllllRighty…

New logs attached - Thanks ! - Really Appreciate your help !

Apologies for asking this again.

Would you capture the logs one more time?

They cut off (I think there is a bug in logfile zip generation with this version which I need investigate).

Of particular interest to me, which you can do without generating new logs,

  1. Open File Station
  2. In the left pane of File Station
  3. RIght-Click “Music” -> Properties.
  4. Let it examine the share and tally the number of files and directories.
  5. Tell me what it reports (Files and Directories)

If my suspicion is correct, you have more directories than Linux can monitor by default. This is an easy thing to address. We calculate what you need, add room for future growth, then tell Linux (DSM) to allocate a table big enough when it starts up.

Hi @ChuckPa

Any progress ?

Thanks for pinging me.
I haven’t really had the time to devote to this as I normally do.
Launch of the new packaging for Debian Linux (which I wrote) has been occupying the vast majority of my time. Other PMS issues Synology-wide jumped right in to that “priority #1” spot as soon as I got packaging settled.

The one thing I haven’t asked you about is the DLNA server.
Is it on or off?

For all new Installations, it should be off
If yours is on, and you’re not using DLNA , please do turn it off.
There is a known memory leak and Engineering hasn’t fixed it yet (not sure if ever).

Has anything happened or is there anything you can add to categorize its behavior?
Is it predictable regardless of main PMS activity?
Any particular time of day?

Your logs don’t show anything outside normal activity.

Regarding the log bug I posted above, It’s been corrected and will be released in the next PlexPass from Engineering.
