I have been using the Plex server on my Synology for YEARS flawlessly. Late last week, it became unresponsive. I cannot get to it, at all. I logged into the Synology admin and stopped the Plex server, then restarted it. (I’ve now done this multiple times over the the past 3 days.)
I try to get to the server using the standard URL (http://192.168.xxx.xxx:32400/web) and it times out every time. This IP is across our local network, not over the open Internet. I tried accessing in Firefox, in Chrome, and in an incognito window in Chrome. All attempts result in a timeout (“the server took too long to respond”).
I can see in Synology that the Plex server package is still installed; that’s how I got the info above. I can see in the Synology file manager that the media files are all still there. I cannot, through the Synology file manager, get to the Plex folder – even as Admin I apparently do not have permissions. For this reason I cannot get to the log files to provide those to you.
I would appreciate being able to have my Plex server responsive again, but after spending the last few hours looking through this community forum, I cannot divine the appropriate steps to take.
Within the Synology app controller, that version (the one I noted) shows as the most recent. Plus, it is set for auto update to make sure I have the most recent.
This is why I detest support forums instead of customer support centers – you get snarky answers.
Hey @alwyatt, the PMS download in the Synology Package Center is typically several versions behind the actual latest version. It takes a while for Synology to update the version provided in their download center.
To ensure the latest version, it is best to manually install PMS when a new update is released.
If you would prefer to continue letting Synology automatically update Plex whenever they publish a newer version that is fine; however to fix your current issue humor me and lets try manually installing the latest version: 1.18.6
There was a weird outage last week, and it threw off a lot of peoples servers. Restarting the whole system fixed most peoples issues, though older installs were resolved after updating.
I have downloaded the latest version. Do I need, in the Synology Package Center, to uninstall the old version before I manually install the new version?
