Synology Plex server naming incorrect

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402

hi to all. I am frustrated!
I have recently purchased NAS ds918+ to handle all my media files.
I have done everything by the Plex guide to how to install PLEX on my NAS. set all the permissions to the media folder through shared folder and groups in the control panel.
I have transferred one of my tv shows “the boys” to the folder tv shows in the media folder.
and for some weird reason - it is identified as POKEMON! this is my 3rd try. on my 1st - in another folder - all the files were identified as “the up series”. and on my second - where I put the media files in the Plex folder (which I know I shouldn’t but I tried) - only then my files were identified correctly… I don’t know what is the issue and it drives me insane! is it really true that I shouldn’t put files in the Plex folder? and if so - what other options do I have? please help - I read many other threads, did th Plex Dance, tried to download metadata of KODI with SONARR but nothing helps

I’ve also recently moved my Plex library from one NAS to another and ran into some ‘interesting’ issues. As an example, I encoded the DVD box set of ‘Taggart’ ages ago. All 110 episodes. On my original NAS all was good. On the new NAS - same files, remember - I was having all sorts of issues. Episodes were out of order, some weren’t identified at all, some were mis-identified.

Turned out that the data on thetvdb.com had changed from when I’d first encoded it. And I’ll swear blind that the current data is incorrect, but it was far easier just to renumber my files than to get into an edit war.

So, in short: it’s always worth seeing if thetvdb.com is still as it was when you first encoded something.

Well here is a weird thing: when i tried moving my files to the main media folder (meaning i didnt get then in subfolders such as tv shows or movies, only volume1>>media>>chernobyl>>seasonx>>file.mkv) then and only then they were identified correctly… its like that extra subfolder was making all the mess… very weird.
And a question for trumpy81 - so are you suggesting that i should NOT use my nas as a plex server? Is it better to choose my pc or imac instead if they have advanced video cards? And do you think that paying for plex pass will end in a better viewing experience (better video quality)? Because i thought my nas i capable of handling both 1080 and 4k because of the HW transcoding…

This happens if you didn’t add the correct folder to your Plex tv show library.
In your case this would be volume1>>media>>
However, I see that you don’t have separate folders for ‘movie’ and ‘tv show’ content. So this was your first mistake.
You should have
volume1>>media>>tv shows
volume1>>media>>movies
volume1>>media>>music

And then you link the various Plex libraries only to those “subfolders by type”.
i.e. the movie library points to volume1>>media>>movies
and the tv show library points to volume1>>media>>tv shows

These are the basic guidelines, which you always should adhere to in Plex.

I did exactly as tou mentioned but got wrong filenames, very wrong.
What i now did is to put everything in the media folder, no extra subfolder such as tvshows movies music etc, and told plex to scan everything straight from media folder, for example : now my tv shows section on plex scans volume1>>media instead what it used to be: volume1>>media>>tv shows. Thats the only way i got it to work god knows why…
