The upgrade from DSM 6.5 seemed to go well. I was able to view programming from the Roku App right after upgrade. The next day, I needed to restart the Synology box, and now the server doesn’t show up when I login to the website or the Plex Android app states “Offline”. Not sure how to troubleshoot.

Thanks,
Todd

Plex Media Server cannot communicate with hosts at plex.tv.

  1. Make sure the default gateway, netmask, etc are correct. In Synology DSM Control Panel → Network. Check both the General and Network Interface tabs.

  2. Consider using a public DNS for the NAS, such as 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare); 8.8.8.8 (Google); 9.9.9.9 (Quad9); etc. They are generally more robust than ISP DNS servers, which sometimes have problems resolving plex.tv hostnames.

  3. Make sure the NAS can communicate to hosts on the Internet.

  • Login to the NAS
  • Control Panel → Regional Options
  • Verify the time zone is correct
  • Choose to synchronize with a NTP server, pick a server, and choose Update Now.
  • If successful you will see Status = Normal.

That tests that DNS is working correctly and the NAS can communicate with hosts on the Internet.

If the above is OK…

From a system on the same network as the NAS, point a private/incognito browser window at the IP address of the Synology: http://nas_ip_address:32400/web.
Ex: If the NAS IP address is 10.1.2.3, go to http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.

Use the IP address. Do not use app.plex.tv, click on the “open” button in Package Center, use Synology Quick Connect or other DDNS server, etc.

The incognito window bypasses any cookie cutters, ad blockers, etc that may get in the way.

Can you login and access the server settings (or claim the server if unclaimed)?

Thanks…All checked out ok, but the time zone was off by 2 hours. I fixed that.
I also found this link on “reset the server credentials” at Libraries no longer found, server installed on same NAS as Library - Plex Media Server / NAS & Devices - Plex Forum

I followed the directions on removing entries from the preferences.xml file.

When I open the PMS from Synology Package Center, this webpage appears. I remember seeing this before. Not sure what’s next.

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

“Response code=“503” title=“Maintenance” status=“Plex Media Server is currently running startup maintenance tasks.”/”

The 503 code is normal. Depending on your library size it can take anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple weeks to migrate/update the library.

Found the issue. After bringing up incognito window in browser, I was finally able to claim the server. I double checked and I had to login first to Plex account and then I clicked the Claim button. All seems good so far. I’ve even shutdown the server and it works as normal. Thanks for the assist!
