My Plex Server Won't Show Up At All

Server Version#: DSM 7.0-41890
Player Version#: 1.40.3.8555-7000

I’m running Plex on a Synology 1019+. All day today I’ve been able to access and watch videos on my server. Tonight, all of a sudden, I’m unable to access it at all. This happened a few days ago and somehow it just ended up fixing itself. Tonight isn’t so lucky. I can open the Plex app from the NAS but I’m unable to view or access my particular server. I can still connect and view a friend’s server though.

I’ve updated to the latest version of Plex. I’ve restarted Plex, the NAS, and my router. When I log into Plex from the server it previously said it couldn’t connect to the server. Then the server just stopped showing up at all.

When I go to settings I don’t see anything related to my server other than ‘Authorized Devices’. I used to be able to view my users and the libraries I’ve shared with them. In the middle of writing this post this error pops up when I click ‘Manage Library Access’
image

When I connect via app.plex.tv I’m able to view my users and the libraries I’ve shared with them.

These are the only options I have when I click settings:

I’d appreciate any help I can get because I’m at a loss of what to do. In the meantime I’m praying to the Plex gods for deliverance.

Thank you in advance

Edit 1:
Moments after posting this, I’m able to view my users and the libraries I’ve shared when clicking ‘Manage Library Access’.

Edit 2:
I’ve followed the directions in this post: Synology FAQ - Questions, Answers, and How-To's - #39 by ChuckPa. This results in this error:

I’ve tried it multiple times without success.

I’ve also tried installing without a claim token and it was able successfully install and connect to my server yet I wasn’t able to claim it. I clicked the claim button and nothing happened.

When the claim token method is unable to complete dialog with Plex.tv

It means it can’t talk to it for either DNS lookup or Network gateway address reasons. There’s something wrong with network configuration OR the way the NAS is connected to the modem/router.

If PMS was running before, stopping it and then grabbing a ZIP file of the “Logs” folder down in PlexMediaServer and attaching it here wiil let me see what happened.

Thank you for your reply. I installed it without claiming it so I could see some logs. Here is what I have:

I believe these are the logs from the last time it was working

May I have the zip of all the logs ?

Nevermind… i found it.

DNS lookup failure

un 13, 2024 21:19:58.991 [139882209381176] WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#58] HTTP error requesting GET https://plex.tv/media/providers?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (6, Couldn’t resolve host name) (Could not resolve host: plex.tv)

It won’t let me upload the zipped up log directory because it’s 29MB

I can upload each individually if you’d like

All good. I found the error. you can delete the ZIP file now.

We need to figure out why it’s not finding Plex.tv (by name)

This is my Syno config. Is yours similar (just different addresses) ?

In these cases, the “DNS Server” info, which usually comes from your modem/router – which is set by your ISP – can be incorrect.

As a test, Manually set the DNS to google (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4)

This is mine

I have PiHole running (that’s the 192.168.0.227 IP) but it’s disabled. I’ll try 8.8.8.8 to see if that fixes it

I changed it to 8.8.8.8 and it still can’t resolve the hostname

don’t forget to set “Default Gateway”

do you ssh / putty into the box ?

If so, at the shell command line, nslookup plex.tv

I definitely missed that. It’s still not able to resolve the hostname. My NAS is connected to a switch (along with my Xbox) and that is connected to a WiFi Range Extender. My router and modem is on the other side of the house. The switch and the extender was the only way I could it to work in a different location in the house

At the command line in the syno ---- ping 8.8.8.8

I am wondering if the mesh is messed up (not uncommon)

I’m unsure how to ssh into the NAS. I did so in my PiHole and this was the result

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ nslookup plex.tv
Server: 192.168.0.227
Address: 192.168.0.227#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: plex.tv
Address: 34.255.231.150
Name: plex.tv
Address: 54.229.0.148

My Xbox isn’t having any connection issues

First thing –

Control Panel - Network Interface - EDIT eth0 – IPv6 – DISABLE it. OFF

your LAN is IPv4.

You did a full power cycle restart of the Syno?

Is this what you mean?

Change it to ‘Off’?
