Synology PMS will not run with 1.30.0.6486 update

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486

Cannot update to newest version. Server was killed. Had to roll back all the way to Synology Beta… and now cannot update.

Anyone else have issue or fix? Where can I update to the previous working build?

Thanks

Please confirm for me

  1. You have 1.21.0.3744 (BETA) still installed ?

  2. You have a “PlexMediaServer” shared folder with AppData/Plex Media Server and a bunch of subfolders ?

If so, please tell me which model you have and I can get you back to working without losing anything

I am now running Version 1.21.0.3744 the version prior to 1.30.1 or 1.30.0 was working fine. When I tried to login yesterday the server was down… Then I restarted the server and initially it would state open… but then the NAS reported that the server was manually closed and I would re launch it… this happened every time.

My initial thought was something is corrupted so I reinstalled Version 1.21.0.3744 and updated without adding any libraries… and the server would still crash. So now I am leaving it on Version 1.21.0.3744 until there is a new patch or an answer…

What do you recommend?

Thanks for the response.

Just noticed the second questions… looking…

My server shows the following directory tree…

The PlexMediaServer directory tree is the new home for PMS on DSM 7.

NO MEDIA cannot be placed here else the permissions will get broken.

There is no way for the package to fix them because DSM 7 took away all our ‘admin’ privileges.

You’re free to use the old, now unused Plex shared folder for media.

1.21.0.3744 is DSM 7 beta. It hasn’t been supported since DSM 7 was released in 2021.

If you have 1.21.0.3744 working.

  1. Delete the PlexMediaServer shared folder.

  2. Now manually install this package (1.29.2).

  3. It will upgrade you from 1.21.0.3744 beta to main production.
( NOTICE: It may sit at “Processing” for a while. DO NOT INTERRUPT IT )
( It’s upgrading from 1.21.0.3744 to production status in the PlexMediaServer shared folder)

  4. STAY at this 1.29.2 version until Engineering returns from the holidays and corrects the other issues.

If you have questions or problems. please ping me @chuckpa and I’ll be notified.

Did all you said, updating now… been sitting at updating for about 5 minutes…

Is this a special patch? It completed the update and says its running but I get the following error now…

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

open with the proper url

http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web

You need the /web

And it now appears to be running the new version 1.29.2

It did prompt for a meta data update… so that is running now… Thanks for the help @ChuckPa ! You helped out a bunch… Is this a known issue/bug?

The patch recreated that PlexMediaServer folder as well.

There will be an update to fix the issues with 1.30.x

For now,

  1. Stay on 1.29.2
  2. Keep an eye on the release announcements here in the forum for details.

The PlexMediaServer shared folder is created and maintained by DSM.
I don’t control it. That’s why I’m so vocal about not touching it; it’s fragile.

Excellent information and I will remember that. Thanks so much!

I will wait for a new patch. Is this something they are aware of? will it be mentioned in the patch notes so I know when I can update again?

Yes, they are aware of it. I worked with Engineering before the holiday break to gather all the data.
