Hi all

I hope someone can help me.

I have installed DSM 7 and then i installed also Plex Media Server Beta. It is also in running state and when i open i can open plex web and i can login on my server.

But i cannot see any media server and any of my movies.

The Plex doesnt find my server even if its running.

@cybergreek

Are you using the “Beta” (1.21.0-3744) from Package Center ?

If so, I urge you to upgrade immediately.

  1. 1.21.0-3744 was released with the DSM 7 BETA and used only during that beta.
  2. 1.21.0-3744 no longer operates correctly with DSM 7 being in Final Release status.

If you upgrade now (from Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More), the upgrade will move your PMS internal files to where they belong quickly with no appreciable delay.

  1. After you do that, we’ll get on with figuring out what the problem is – if it still exists after you update PMS to current release (1.28.x)

Hi Chuck

This is my problem. I want to upgrade my PMS from the Plex Download Site I have donwloaded this one.

I selected Synology DSM7 and the file ARMv7(x13 Series)

But when igo to my Synology i select the manual update and select my file and then this is never ending.
The update is never finished and i dont know what else to do.

Nico

When you upgrade from 1.21.0-3744,

  1. The package detects you have the BETA installed.
  2. When it does, it starts immediately, – unfortunately without any prompting –
moving your existing PMS internals to where they will be in the “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.

It will finish. It can’t “hang” or get “stuck”. You only need be patient with it while it completes “Processing” (which is DSM itself performing the moving)

Is this what you see ?

If you interrupt it, you might damage what you have or block it from finishing the upgrade.

Please advise what state you’re in.

Have you attempted more than once to upgrade?

Are there any files in “PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server” ?

Hi Chuck

I have tried it several times and then when i saw that after 20 Minutes the update is not finished, i refreshed my NAS Page and then i begun from the beginning again to install manually the PMS update.

Once i am at home i will check if i have some files there in "PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server”

Maybe you can help me also with connecting via screensharing tool?

Hi Chuck

Can i ask you where i can find this folder? “PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server”

I was in my Synology NAS but i dont know where there i can find a data explorer? is there any

If you already indexed a lot of media, this can take up to 1 hour. (for a few extreme users, it required 2 weeks to complete )

  1. Open the Synology web page – You want “File Station”
  2. PlexMediaServer will be in the left column

I have the file station but i can see this one.
I have a folder named (home) it is in Volume1 and there i have a folder named (plex) but it is empty.

But i have also a self made folder named (Movies) where all my movies are. I dont have my movies in this Plex folder in (Homes) directory.

Should i move everything there?

Sorry for all this stupid questions, but its incredible. My Plex was working for several years and now it is not anymore.

Nico

Can you tell me which one i should use for the Synology DS218j ??

I thought the x13 series was the correct one, but during the update i had a message that the version is incompatible with my NAS?

@cybergreek

Go to Control Panel - Info Center.

It will tell you what you have

I have only teamviewer. If you have time tomorrow, we can use teamviewer and you can help me? There is also a chat and voice funkctionality, we can use this one?

I have not apple but an android phone, so this is not possible.

Tell me how yu can help me maybe?

I have over 200 Movies and i want that this will work again as it was before

I’ve tried to get teamviewer voice chat to work but never was lucky :frowning:

Regular teamviewer desktop works for what we need to do.

Please check your NAS model carefully.

DS218+ is a Intel - 64 bit
DS218j is ARMv7
DS218play is ARMv8 - 64 bit

On the downloads page…

There is “Synology” – which is DSM 6

and

There is “Synology (DSM7)” – which is for DSM 7

You want this file:

https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3/synology-dsm7/PlexMediaServer-1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3-armv7hf_DSM7.spk

If you try to install DSM 6 packages on DSM 7, it complains really loud!

Hi Chuck

Thank you for the link, i will download this, but i think i was on the DSM7 section.

I will try again and come back to you again.

Hi Chuck

I have no luck. I downloaded the PMS from the URL you send to me, the installation begun, but after a while, there is a message that tells me in German but i will translate

This Package will be not supported from this Plattform of the Diskstation or is not compatible with the actual DSM Version.

Can it be that Plex is not anymore compatible with the DS218j?

Please look here.

It is supported.

To confirm? This is DSM 6 or DSM 7?

For DSM 6. you select the package from the “Synology” download choices.
For DSM 7. you select the package from the “Synology (DSM7)” download choices.

The bottom choice is what you want. Did I copy the wrong link for you?
(Looks like I did. Synology ARMv7 CPUs are very confusing).

Please notice it says “x18” series
