Synology update failure v1.18.9.2571 and reinstall stuck at server is unclaimed

I upgraded to the latest version of Plex v1.18.9.2571 for the Synology NAS, while the upgrade seemed to work, the server failed to start.
Attempted rebooting the NAS etc, but nothing helped.

I uninstalled, deleted the Plex app folder and reinstalled the v1.18.9.2571 server has started and completed the setup but I have an error message saying I need to claim the server.

When clicking the “Claim Server” button nothing happens.

Any suggestions how to fix the Claim Server problem?

The “app” folder is where the software is held. DSM removes it when you uninstall the package. Your metadata (the Plex share) remains unless you delete it.

Can you manually retrieve the logs for me? I’ll look and see if we can find out what happened.

Hi,

Plex had been running on this NAS for the past 6 months, each time it’s successfully upgraded when prompted.

Sorry the only way to get the Plex app running again was to completely delete the folders and preferences.

When opening the server app on the NAS it didn’t detect the installation and prompted to download the server software.

As far as the NAS was concerned the Plex app was running.

After setting up the Plex app again, (post install wizard) it reported something went wrong durning the process, I can only assume its related to the “claim the server” prompt. Clicking the Claim Server button doesn’t seem to do anything.

The Plex app isn’t 100%, it’s unable to detect any of the IP addresses for remote access.

Attached are the logs from the new install.

When you delete a server, there’s a step missing from the documtation.

  • Go so app.plex.tv/desktop (this is the hosted one)
  • Settings - Authorized Devices (top left corner) - Servers (dropdown)
  • Delete the name of the server you just completely removed.

This is necessary because Plex/web will see the Syno’s new installation and think it’s the original one but own’t be able to authenticate properly and hence gets stuck with “Claim” .

Thanks for the logs. You do have a major problem with the Synology’s network config

It’ can’t find / connect to the internet & Plex.tv

Error 6 from your logs is a DNS lookup failure.

Thanks for finding that in the logs, the DNS server had crashed, now that it’s been restarted.

It seem the DNS caches on the other computers in at home hadn’t timed out yet, hence why I hadn’t noticed.

The Plex app is looking happier.

Might I suggest setting up the secondary DNS server in your Syno config to something like Google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) ?

That’s was my exact thought, I’ve updated the NAS to include googles DNS as a secondary.
