I am running a Synology DS218+ and I can’t seem to claim the server? I am running DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 1. What can I try? SO far I have tried logging out and into Plex. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Plex Server on the DS218+ and still nothing. When I attempt to Claim Server it merely cycles the “Claim Server” display.
Thanks for the help.
I don’t have this folder on my NAS “plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server”. So I followed Q7a uninstalled, etc. and started over. I have a plex folder now which I placed the movies in. But I still cannot claim the server. And the file mentioned above is still not there? It also keeps showing that an update for the NAS is available. But the updates are exactly what I have.
My bad. I did follow Q7, not 7A. Apologies. I have now un-done the movie file transfer and started over. Went through your first and second msgs and followed Q7A and the rest. I have installed the latest version (64 bit) for Synology. The problem now is it won’t start. I click on run in the Package Center and it starts then stops.
OK, DL using Firefox. But now I get this message:
“Port 32400 configured for this package is either used by another service or reserved for system use. Please disable or modify the conflicting service, or contact the developer to modify the package configuration.”
Hi Ya. Sorry I was gone for 10 days and back just today.
I followed your last recommendation and Rebooted the NAS. Then Opened up
the IP for the Plex Server and it still won’t let me claim it.

Yes, and reported back exactly what happened in my responses except for the
last message as I had to leave town.
Again, thanks for your help. Well I’ve pretty run through all the Q&A on the Synology FAQ’s page you refer to and your post and everything (to the best of my knowledge) is as it should be and yet it won’t let me claim the server. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this more?
I really have done everything your post have asked me to do. Anything I could not do or understand I posted back to you and with your reply I followed everything. Including moving the movies out of the plex folder. So where or how can I proceed?
May I suggest trying an extreme step?
- Stop PMS in Package Center
- Open the Plex share in File Station . If you do not see it, Open Control Panel - Shared Folders and give your username permission to R/W then close/reopen File Station
- In the Plex share, rename
Library
toLibrary.keep
- Start PMS
- Open http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web in your browser
ChuckPA - thanks for your suggestion.
- I stopped PMS in package center.
- I renamed “Library” to Library.keep
- restarted PMS
- and went to the PLex Server using http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web
Looked like it was going to work but failed here:
Any idea?
At this point, I will need to see the logs
In FileStation, open the Plex share
Navigate down through Library until you see Logs
Right click Logs
and Compress to Logs.zip
Attach that here.
I will look and see what it’s complaining about
Thanks Chuck, attached.

Try that again please? Wait until the upload completes (you see the reference URL) before clicking “Post Comment”
My first reply was from Gmail. Evidently the forum doesn’t like getting an attachment from there. I’ve responded on the forum this time and made the attachment here.
Thanks. Found the issue.

Ok, not sure what I do to allow this?
I configure mine manually to point to my modem/router’s LAN IP.
It looks like this (Control Panel - Network - General)
After you’ve done this, Control Panel - Update & Restore will probably tell you DSM Updates are waiting to be installed. Package Center will probably show the same thing too Take care of that first
Chuck,
Can’t thank you enough. After a couple weeks of frustration, it’s working !!! Seems that the auto-configuration for Network inserted a mysterious DNS server. I corrected that, tested the connection, fired up PLEX on the NAS it connected to the NAS, claimed server and were all good. Seems the “can’t claim server” error could have been a little more specific (e.g. No internet connection) and maybe I could have gotten here quicker. Oh well.
Thanks again for your help and patience.

Synology “Automagic Configuration” just isn’t.
When done your way or by your modem/router (DHCP), it works. Don’t let them do it ever again.
I prefer to set static addresses in my NAS boxes and never have any trouble.
Glad you’re up and running. Now for DSM 6.1.5 updates
A little late i know, but just to say i had this issue for ages and this was the problem exactly as above - Synology had wrong DNS info. As soon as i changed it to router IP, it worked straight away. Thank you all!
