Tag fields in two different languages

Hi everybody, here’s what I’m trying to achieve :

  1. Create a new movie library with some test movies inside
  2. Scrape all the required online info in FRENCH (in order to have the tagline and the plot in french)
  3. Lock all tag fields except TITLE and SORT TITLE
  4. Change library properties so the metadata is now scraped in ENGLISH
  5. Refresh metadata, so that TITLE and SORT TITLE change to english, as they should

… it doesn’t work. No matter what I do, TITLE and SORT TITLE keep being recreated again and again in FRENCH, even though all library parameters are set to english (Library Language = ENGLISH, Advanced > Country = UNITED STATES).

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug ? Thanks.

Once an item has been matched in one language, the metadata agent and the language setting will stay with this item.
Changing these in the properties of the library will only affect newly added items afterwards.

I.e. what you want to do is unfortunately not possible.

Thanks. Well, then maybe Plex ought to be improved in that case, because what I’m trying to achieve makes complete sense to me.
At least there should be a way to RESET the metadata agent for any single item, while keeping some of its tag fields locked ! Why on Earth wouldn’t be possible ?

How about ticking off ‘Localized Titles’ in the preferences of the Plex Movie agent?

Actually that worked ! THANK YOU ! You made my day.

So I guess what I need to do is this :

  1. Create a new movie library, with these settings :
  • Library language : French, so the downloaded info is in french
  • Localized titles : ON
  • Country : ??? (I see what the “Library language” is for (to download info in the relevant language), but I don’t understand what the “Country” field is for. Any hints ?)
  • Prefer artwork based on library language : OFF
  1. Wait until all the french info is scraped from the Net

  2. Copy the TITLE field to the ORIGINAL TITLE field (I’d like to use the ORIGINAL TITLE field as a LOCALIZED TITLE / SECONDARY TITLE field, as there is no such field, unfortunately, which is a real pity BTW)

  3. Lock all tag fields except TITLE and SORT TITLE

  4. Change library Advanced settings :

  • Localized titles : OFF
  1. Refresh metadata

Now my only concern is that I’d need to do step 3 for ALL MOVIES in my library, which would be tedious. I hope somebody can give me a simple SQL command to do it, using SQLiteSpy for instance. That would save me a lot of time.

I can only tell you that the ‘country’ setting is primarily for fetching content ratings. (“Suitable from age nn”)
