I understand that the majority of people probably don’t use Plex primarily for photo and video libraries, however, I still think this issue is important and the solution for it is quite simple and could be implemented without too much hassle.
Plex currently has a 1000 photo per month cap on tagging photos since this process is handled by a third party. This is not only slow due to the off-site analysis of photos, but it’s also unusable for most people with hundreds of thousands of photos.
The solution is obviously not to reinvent the wheel and try and compete with Google Photos AI photo analysis, instead, I’m sure it would be possible to have some sort of integration / API that would allow the Plex Media Server to add tags to photos from our own custom source. For example, an open-source project PhotoPrism currently has an awesome, 100% local AI Photo Analysis and tagging system that’s very similar to Google photos. If it were at all possible to have a project like PhotoPrism export tag information to Plex, I’m sure someone would implement it.
Does this sound like something that is at all feasible and what do you think the chances of Plex actually implementing this is?
Cheers
