So I tested the new Movie Scanner/agent by creating a new library and I’m facing some issues.
I’m glad I did not upgrade my old library.
The problems I’m facing:
All movies have unwatched state again? I thougt viewstate was server-wide.
Loads of german posters are missing
Many movies did not match, despite being named correctly (Plex Scheme, however for reasons slightly deviating titles, being no prblem for the legacy Agent)
Most of my older movies (indeed not perfectly named) remained unmatched and multi parts not detected.
I think the reason for the latter problem is that I added german word “Teil” to the Stack.py detection and my custom Language naming pattern the the VideoFiles.py file. Maybe the new scanner do not use those? How could I possibly again tweak the detection?
At least there is ONE cool thing:
The auto-generation of collections worked pretty neat, but I’m missing some “large” Collections, like the Whole MCU or all “Disney Meisterwerke”
Only got a short moment right now… so here’s a remark on your 1st issue.
The view state is linked to the movie’s unique id. The new agent is assigning a different unique ID, so Plex will show the movies as unwatched if you create a new library.
I had a moment of panic when I initially only updated a secondary library of mine which resulted in tons of movies to show up as unwatched.
TL;DR: what you see is a hiccup if you have the same movie in multiple libraries, one updated to the new agent, one using a legacy/different agent.
Would you mind sharing an example?
Most of my libraries are defaulting to German and I had zero issues when upgrading to the new scanner/agent (few during the preview period but none when I upgraded my main server after the official release).
I’m a bit curious as for how slightly those deviations are
Are you referring to “stacked files” (1 movie split across multiple files)?
I noticed there’s been some tweaks to the naming over the last few years… so I consider naming matters. We could take a look if you share an example – I had merged the last stacked videos in my library in 2019 using MKVToolNix… so I didn’t run into this issue while upgrading my libraries.
If I remember correctly, Plex is using collection information from The Movie Database. From what I’ve seen there, they usually focus on the more “direct” type of collections (e.g. Iron Man 1-3, Thor 1-3, Captain America 1-3, The Avengers 1-4…), not the kind of “meta collections” you have in mind.
I ended up creating those missing ones manually (quick result… – I admit I was too lazy for a “fight” with The Movie Database users to argue their policy )
Ok, it seems like most missing posters fixed themselves, only very few with missing German Posters left:
2 Tage New York [2011]
Die Beschissenheit der Dinge [2009]
Die Chroniken von Erdsee [2006]
Die Eule und das Kätzchen [1970]
Kim Possible - Invasion der Roboter [2005]
Kim Possible . Mission zwischen den Zeiten [2003]
Die Mächte des Wahnsinns [1995]
Nicht ohne meine Tochter [1991]
Die Schöne und das Biest [2014]
Das schwarze Loch [1979]
Der Sohn von Rambow [2006]
Der Sprung nach oben [1994]
Wie ein Schrei im Wind [1966]
Not matched movies with slight naming deviations that matched with the old agent were for example:
96 Hours - Taken vs. 96 Hours
Burke und Hare vs Burke & Hare
Oliver und Co vs Oliver & Co.
Hot Shots 2 - Der zweite Versuch vs Hot Shots Der Zweite Versuch
Es - Kapitel 1 vs Es
Das Rotkäppchen Ultimatum vs Das Rotkäppchen-Ultimatum
A X L vs. A-X-L
Yes, and my multi-parts are named “Teil x von y”. Because Plex only accepted cd, part or things like that, I manually added “teil” to the Stack algortihm, but that seems to be broken now.
Alas, maybe its time to merge or rename all the old stuff…
It looks like those movies don’t have German language posters on The Movie Database… this could be because nobody has uploaded one or due to a “purge” they did some months ago (my guess: probably automatically deleting posters with watermarks from other major platforms).
Makes me feel glad I opted to download some of those posters as “local media assets” alongside my media… this way Plex is using those posters and doesn’t depend on those online versions.
So, I went through manually matching all my old movies, there are several movies that cannot even be manually matched when providing the movie name and year.
