Testing a NAS installation with existing Plex account/server

Info to assist with running Plex on Synology:

You can have multiple servers on the same account.

See FAQ 26 - Migrate from another OS → DSM 7.

This will migrate the server from your Windows system to the NAS. You can run both servers at the same time, switching when you are ready.

You should also enable Sync Watch State and Ratings on your account (and have anyone you share with enable it as well).

If you do not want to migrate any data from the Windows system or just want to test:

On the Synology NAS:

  1. Uninstall Plex Media Server. When prompted, choose the Uninstall Only option.
  2. Re-install the same version. When prompted, choose the Plex Claim Token option.
  3. Enter the claim token. If successful, you will see a “server successfully claimed by…” message.
  4. Login to PMS on the NAS using the NAS IP address. For example, if the address is 10.1.2.3, use http://10.1.2.3:32400/web. You should be able to access server settings and configure as desired.

Once you can reach the NAS locally, you should be able to reach it via https://app.plex.tv/desktop and the other client apps.
