The ability to disable plex yelling Plex at you during start up

Please kill this with fire as quickly as possible.

Even the option to disable would be a paltry concession.

I don’t want to have to guide my friends and fam through the steps to yet again configure yet another setting (ie remote quality) to toggle off.

The better option if this terrible idea gets promoted to prod would be to have it disabled by default and enabled by the user. Unless this could be controlled by the server owner, but I’m guessing thats unlikely and also a disjointed end user experience if they’re part of multiple servers.

What is the reason for adding such an useless and annoying feature? Just because bigger companies do this so should Plex?

I consider the intro chime annoying in all the applications that have a feature like this. But I thought that Plex, as a community driven product, would have the opinion of the community in mind when designing new features. Please remove/disable this chime.

Please disable or give option to disable.

Who approved this!?

Hi, “some guy” here. Yep it’s obnoxious and made me question reality.
We NEED the ability to disable this sound. It’s unnecessary, nobody asked for it

This is news to me as I don’t have a Android TV device but I HEAVILY request that this be ELIMINATED ---- FAST!

First off, JUST BECAUSE oh, I don’t know… TUBI TV, YouTube, Hulu, Netflix HAVE ONE doesn’t mean WE NEED ONE! Don’t forget… If you, PLEX, a PRIVATE company with VC money, want to IMPRESS US, continue working on the technical engineering and not the FLUFF.

No one ASKED for a branding CHIME. GET RID OF IT!

WE know exactly what we’re opening. That’s why we installed it. We don’t need a chime for your brand recognition. That’s NOT why we have your apps installed.

I’m sure you all might not know this but as a RING doorbell user, I have had to MUTE/VIBRATE my notifications of my RING doorbells simply because the chime is annoying. Many of the streaming companies who implemented their chimes FORCED it upon their customers. It’s NOT cute. AT ALL.

OH, and you have the time to do R&D to come up with a BRAND CHIME but don’t have the decency to finalize the work to finally launch the audio for ATSC 3.0? Good gawd you sure love to make everyone crazy.

Remove this please. Thank you.

Who approved this rubbish.

oh, but I’m certain Plex has “market research” showing that brand recognition goes WAY UP if the chime is used. what a bunch of fools.

You don’t understand. Many of their leadership panel that Plex acquired last year were executives from some of those brands. They are merely steering Plex in that direction because they think it will embolden and make the Plex brand unique, when it will in fact drown it out. They are turning the brand into a streaming copycat.

Plex, please, remove this.

A configurable option is not enough as I would need to guide the family members that use my server through the steps needed to remove this from their devices.

Just kill it and consider it as an experiment which didn’t get any favorable reception.

Thanks!.

PS: I used one of my scarce and precious votes on this issue.

Agree 1000% (I know 100% should be max but OMG!). What were they thinking “PLEX!”, who wants that?

Who on Plex’s dev/product team thought that it was a good idea?

If it wasn’t 150% as loud as my media maybe I wouldn’t have jumped off the couch. Cannot disable this fast enough.

Its hard to believe developer time was spent on a horrible change such as this Vs fixing the myriad of client issues with Live TV DVR features

Was this decision made at the end of a product meeting when everyone else was asleep?? Such a stupid thing to add, ■■■■■■■ scares me everytime.

Yeah, it’s horrible, I quite liked the logo flash, but the sound really harshes my mellow. It’s weird, I used to open plex to have a browse, but I hate that sound so much I only open for a browse if everything else has been browsed. At least Netflixes startup sound is more soothing.

Pretty disappointed to be honest.

Hi there, just logged in to the forums to tell you:
That’s an awful feature. Please remove it (not an option to disable it - scrap the entire code). Also kindly fire whoever had this idea.

Interesting, it was playing the start up sound the whole morning. Now the start up is completely silent as of 9:29am CST. Maybe they pushed something server side to silence it. I can’t reproduce the start up sound anymore.

I’m on a Nvidia Shield running 9.12.0.36838

This is genuinely one of the worst “features” Plex has ever implemented. Please holy hell remove this.

I haven’t experienced it (yet) but vote added. This is beyond stupid.
