I have placed The Batman into my server, but it doesn’t get listed. When I search for it, it shows HBO Max and HBO sources to access it, but not my server. I placed this into my Batman folder, and in the general milieu, but it does not show. Usually a new entry is placed in the line of new or recent movies, but nada, zilch, nothing. I know this is a relatively mnior problem as Plex has been working swimmingly all of these years, and only gets better., but being on rigid side, it bothers me
Re scan your movie Library, may help
Make sure your file is named correctly, as well. Worked fine for me under this structure:
/Multimedia/Movies/The Batman (2022)/The Batman (2022).mp4
First of all make sure you are using the new agents, and not the old legacy ones
(If not, then upgrade, followed by a metadata refresh)
If so, check naming is correct, and compare with:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/
Naming could be like:
The Batman (2022) {imdb-tt1877830} <----- Folder
The Batman (2022) {imdb-tt1877830} [Other nice info in square brackets].mkv <---- Media file
I do not use or need the ID sections at all.
Actually I simply have a folder named “Batman Movies” and in that folder I have many of the “Batman” movies all in the format:
“Movie Name (year)” with no additional crap.
The movie in question is named only “The Batman (2022)”
I have zero matching problems with anything in that folder. But a friend of mine has exactly the same structure and naming and when they added “The Batman” it matched against one of the other Batman movies and had to be split apart and rematched to work correctly.
Many time in the past I have seen two correctly named movies matched incorrectly and/or combined but that is the exception and 99% of the time correct naming has meant correct matching.
One of my friends has all his movies in individual folders as well as inside general folders and he names everything correctly and he still has no more than 99% correct matching.
Plex says that their matching engine always uses the date and ID if it is available but that seems untrue or at least intermittently untrue.
My suggestion is:
Get the naming right and then, if the movie is not found as expected, use the folder view to check exactly how Plex has it named and then fix it but, if the naming is correct, don’t change the naming but rather just fix the matching.
My experience is that individual folders for each movie is only needed in special rare circumstances and has the effect of making maintenance more difficult particularly at the file system level.
It also creates more points of failure for any attempt at matching.
Name your movies and folders using the KISS principal and you will find that everything else get easier as well.
Sometimes I have to add the ID, dunno why most of the time movies in the format of “The Batman (2022)” work correctly, 1% of the time I have to add the ID to help it out. Like dane22 says…
Yeah, most likely Plex incorrectly matched it as a duplicate of an existing batman movie. Check to see if you have a duplicate batman somewhere, as Elijah stated, and split it out.
