i am trying to add "The Batman {tt1877830} "
but the server will not find it what am i doing wrong checked the logs i see no error message in regards to this file i did however find another one that was not formatted and took care of that
Try… The Batman {imdb-tt1877830} or The Batman (2022) {imdb-tt1877830} You need to give source as well as the id within { }.
In addition, you may see that plex had a security breach yesterday so their backend systems are under major stress ATM with folks resetting passwords so it might also be a factor.
thank you for replying
Still not working i tried both direct copy/paste
Did you try just
The Batman (2022).mp4
That’s what I have and it shows up fine
If it is an mp4 make sure you don’t have any properties in the file that is causing the scanner to match it to something else.
Is it not matching to the correct movie or not showing up at all?
it isn’t matching at all, and that’s how i had it originally before adding the imdb id
it’s and m4v file extension
Did you Plex Dance the file? If you change the name while its still visible to Plex (in a folder Plex indexes) Plex will detect that it was a file RENAME and do nothing. So if the file is improperly matched before (or missing), it will remain so after the name change.
Alternatively, I have never added a file that Plex simply ignored. If anything happened, it probably matched to the wrong movie by mistake, or could have been mistaken as a duplicate file to an existing file. Filter for “Unmatched”, or filter for “Duplicates”, to see if it showed up like that. Filter by “Date Added” and look for unfamiliar files to check for a possible mis-match.
I think when I added the movie originally, it tried to match up as a duplicate of the 1989 “Batman” movie.
Edit: Did a quick search. Plex supports m4v, but people have had issues with files like it in the past. One such article says m4v is an extension that is basically mp4, but with the potential for DRM. Plex will not be able to play DRM protected files, so if there is DRM that might be why it won’t show up?
Putting the id in the filename will not help with matching, it needs to be in the folder name if you want to use the ids for matching. Basically like this …
plex@dokuro:/data/Personal/Scripts$ ls '/data/MediaServer/14b-Movies/Movies/The Batman (2022) {tmdb-414906}'
fanart.jpg poster.jpg 'The Batman (2022).mp4'
plex@dokuro:/data/Personal/Scripts$
So /data/MediaServer/14b-Movies/Movies is my top level movie library and The Batman (2022) {tmdb-414906} is the movie folder itself containing the movie media files.
I’m using tmdb ids but its the same for imdb, just change it to match what you are doing. Also, as @Divideby0 has said you will likely need to plex dance it as bad information is now in your db which needs to be removed.
I thought it was ok in the filename. Especially if you are using no sub-folders for your media. I mean, I haven’t had to use these id lines to match my media (knock on wood), but I always thought I could add them to the filename if need be.
The ID in the file name should be perfectly OK.
I’d still try the Plex Dance.
And since we have an mp4/m4v file here, make sure to demote embedded meta data in Plex, by disabling “Prefer local metadata” in the properties of the library (prior to performing the Plex Dance).
Thank you all for your help i finally got it to work it was linking it to the orignial batman from the 90’s once i added the imdb number to that file it discovered The Batman from 2022
