"The Lost Room" DVD set refuses to use DVD ordering from thetvdb.com

Hello. I am a new plex user and have purchased a lifetime plexpass. This is my first post on the forum.

I am trying to add the TV mini-series “The Lost Room” to my plex collection. The specific DVD edition I am using is UPC 012236211761.

“The Lost Room” episode naming is a bit odd. Fundamentally the series has 6 episodes, entitled:

The Key
The Clock
The Comb
The Box
The Eye
The Occupant

This is the episode ordering that is on my DVD set. The DVD episode listing for this show appears correct on The TV DB (https://thetvdb.com/series/the-lost-room/seasons/dvd/1).

But when the show was aired on SyFy, and on most online streaming services, the series appears as 3 episodes, each of which comprises 2 of the above episodes. These three episodes are entitled:

The Key and the Clock
The Comb and the Box
The Eye and the Prime Object

The as-aired episode listing is also correct (https://thetvdb.com/series/the-lost-room/seasons/official/1).

Sorry for the long preamble, but it was necessary to explain my problem. I cannot get Plex to recognize the DVD episode names for this show. I am aware that I can select “DVD ordering” in the advanced edit tab for the TV show. That has no effect. No matter what I do, Plex assigns the 3 “as-aired” episode names to the first 3 of my 6 video files, and leaves my second 3 files unnamed.

I believe I have named my files correctly according to the Plex TV naming instructions. Here are their names:

E:\tv\The Lost Room\Season 01\The Lost Room - s01e01 - The Key.mkv
E:\tv\The Lost Room\Season 01\The Lost Room - s01e02 - The Clock.mkv
E:\tv\The Lost Room\Season 01\The Lost Room - s01e03 - The Comb.mkv
E:\tv\The Lost Room\Season 01\The Lost Room - s01e04 - The Box.mkv
E:\tv\The Lost Room\Season 01\The Lost Room - s01e05 - The Eye.mkv
E:\tv\The Lost Room\Season 01\The Lost Room - s01e06 - The Occupant.mkv

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I realize that I could join my episodes into the 3 double-episodes using MKVtoolnix, but I prefer the 6-episode format for this show. It would be great if I could get Plex to recognize the DVD ordering that is there and correct on thetvdb.com.

I don’t know if there is any problem with newly added content, but it has and is still working in my firefly series that is set to dvd order:

Did you ‘refresh metadata’ at the show level after changing the episode ordering setting ? the metadata won’t update until it gets refreshed (either manually, or whenever the background tasks butler cycles through).

fwiw, I was able to confirm plex unable to load dvd order on some test files for this series.

I don’t know if it is only this series, or affects other series as well.

It could be a temporary tvdb problem, or a plex problem.

I don’t know if it will get resolved before then, but they are already testing a new tv scanner, so we may have to wait until then for a fix.

Have you tried the TV show scanner preview build?

Or are you still looking for the prime object that fixes the metadata in Plex?

actually I just noticed that the new scanner does not yet support dvd order yet, so that won’t help this particular situation.

does the yet mean that the new scanner is expected to support DVD order on an individual show basis at some point?

I can confirm swerthei’s problem with the DVD ordering of “The Lost Room”. DVD order does not appear to work with my copy either.

I can also confirm TeknoJunky’s information about Firefly. DVD order does work.
