The PLEX app works on one TV LG TV but not the other in my friends house

For some reason, a few weeks ago the PLEX app works but on one LG TV it will not see my server but on the other LG TV it will see my server and play the movies just fine. My inlaws have an LG TV as well and the PLEX app works fine but they can’t see my server either. I’m definitely not too computer savvy but the platform versions are different which I figure is due to same TV brand but different models. I’ve deleted the PLEX app and reinstalled with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas or have run across the same issues? Thanks in advance!!

Check this and see if it explains it. Important information about Plex for smart TVs after September 30, 2021 - Announcements - Plex Forum
My advice to people is always to get away from the built in “smart” features of a TV and get a proper little streaming device. On the high end and the absolute best Plex client period imo go with the Nvidia Shield Pro (2019), not the cheaper tube as it has problems with high bitrate 4K content. If you need something cheaper, the Chromecast with Google TV after the fixes has in my eyes become probably the best budget Plex client out there at $40-50. I would really only put it behind the Shield and the Apple TV.

Thanks. I did look at the update info from September but no luck. I actually have them all hard wired with the ethernet straight to the internet router so not really sure how the chromecast would fix that issue? It’s just weird how the PLEX app works, they can watch movies and TV or whatever but they just can’t see my server content, except on the one TV. Sorry if I sound dumb, I’m just an old mechanic and not real smart on the computer side.

From a young mechanic (aviation 10 years), if you read that article you will see that LG sunsetted support for a ton of TV’s on 9/30/21. Those TV’s running on those operating systems will no longer be able to access private Plex servers because LG and the other manufacturers listed in that article have made the decision to no longer support those models with the necessary security updates to keep them functioning with Plex. I brought up the other streaming devices because they tend to be kept up to date a lot longer than the TV manufacturers do, and in the event that they do become out of date it is much cheaper and more economical to replace your $50-200 streaming device than it is to replace your whole TV.

Same here, work mostly on Gulfstreams doing avionics, I just don’t understand software. So now that makes sense as to why it works on an older LG and not the newer ones. I’ll give the chromecast a shot and see how that works. Thanks, I really do appreciate the help on this!!

Beautiful airplanes! My career has been spent around Embraer 120 and 145’s, Beech 1900D’s, Metroliners, and Dornier 328JET’s. Currently maintenance control at a small airline which means I actually wear about 12 different hats lol. Hopefully that Chromecast straightens everything up. Make sure it is the Google TV version with the remote. It truly is an excellent little device.

Yeah, can’t do mx control. I give you credit, I couldn’t do it. Rather be on the floor.

Yeah, I sometimes sneak out to the floor. I was out doing power runs on our 120 the other day. So there is definitely a part of me that misses being on the floor with all the techs.

I just wanted to say thanks again!! I got the chromecast last night and PLEX is up & running again like it should be! Thanks for all the help and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

You are absolutely welcome! You have a great Thanksgiving as well! If you ever need any more help just let me know
