The sad state of Plex Player on Samsung Tizen smart TVs (SRT causes playback failure)

Do you have a sample clip to reproduce with? I exclusively use subtitles with everything I watch at home, and never had issues.

Thanks for reply.

That’s the problem: it happens at random times… Sometimes it’s possible to resume and the same problem occurs again at random point; sometimes it doesn’t occur.

I already uploaded log files and explicitly disclose the video file in this thread, but the person who asked for never return…

Thanks for reply. Again.

i never use subtitles and it seems like i have similar issues.

some days it’s absolutely fine, some days Plex just does. not. work. it is so frustrating.
a few days ago I put on Movie 1. 2 minutes in, the entire Plex app crashes completely.

today i thought i’ll watch another movie, Movie 2. 90 minutes in, “Multimedia file format not supported. Error code: PLAYER_ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED_FILE (AVPlay)”
funny, because for 90 minutes it already WAS supported.

so i tried Movie 1 again, lo and behold it works! but every so often, audio drops out for 30+ seconds. video fine. then - “Multimedia file format not supported. Error code: PLAYER_ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED_FILE (AVPlay)” again. if i try again tomorrow, who knows?! maybe it will be perfect.

i am not using subtitles.

Would be nice if Plex disclosure the source code of its players. This way I could fix these problems myself.

I have srt subtitles working flawlessly for my on bot of my Samsungs…

In the settings of the app under vider, I set burn subtitles to ‘image format only’

Now as long as whatever I watch has the supported video/audio it will direct play with the subtitles displayed without issue

Mine is configured exactly like this.

And every time a movie/episode is getting closer to the end, the subtitles stop to be showing. I need to get back a few seconds in order to see the subtitles again until the end.

Regards.

So sorry, in fact, that I purchased a new Samsung Tizen TV this week, and the Plex player was SO BAD that the TV went back today.
Random “unknown content type” errors; stuttering audio; freezing video; NO audio; whacked-out subtitle sync problems. Way too much trouble.
Saddest part is that a circa 2012 Roku Express connected to the same TV, in the same location, played the Plex content flawlessly.

But don’t trust in Roku either. I have the Ultra version, and it has a lot of other problems… I dare to say that Roku was the worst piece of … err… hardware that I ever bought.

Try to enable the New Samsung Tizen App Preview. It seems promising.
