The selected server is unreachable. Make sure it's running, double check your network, and try again

Hi

Everything was working OK until today.

Now, I cannot access my server which is on a Windows Vista PC either via:

  1. the web app at http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html
  2. the Roku Plex app

I cannot go to server settings since the server is unreachable.

I have another account and server running on a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and that is fine.

My network is running without an issue, I have the ports forwarded and opened correctly.

It may say an insecure connection cannot be made but I do not think that is the issue as it is a local server.

This is driving me crazy.

Please help

So you can or can’t get to it on this?

http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html

When I click on that link, I cannot get into that page. It says:

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:32400.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

However, I have another tab from a previous session going to the same URL ie.

http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#

On that page, i see the the standard Plex web app page but it says in the left upward frame:

The selected server is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.

In the centre it says:

The server “Aun’s Plex PC” is unavailable
Plex will automatically try to reconnect to this server

I have been running this server from this computer since a year and a half ago without issues. I can get online all throughout and even now. I just cannot reach my local Plex server which is on the same computer.

So sounds like the plex media server is not running.
The previous tab is probably just using cached info but also cant reach the server.

Have you restarted plex or the PC?

I figured it out.

It was an issue with an AVG update. The workaround is as follows:

It’s weird though - the cases in the link above happened in April. It is now September and it happened only now in my case.

I’ve been having this problem recently, and the AVG Firewall fix worked for me!

I’m getting the same error when I try to run the Plex App on my Synology NAS.

I can open the Plex app on my windows PC no problem. I just can’t open it from my NAS. I get the following error.

Unable to connect. Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at railroad.synology.me:32400.

I’m not using AVG and I don’t have any Firewall settings set on my NAS.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I have the latest version of Plex installed.
