The State of Plex on PS4

They are too busy adding stupid BS like VR.

That’s it exactly. They are wasting resources on gimmicky garbage that no one asked for or wants instead of making a good stable program. Seriously I would have gone full plex pass long ago but their players always seem to be in constant beta. And I refuse to pay to be a beta tester.

Add me to the list of plexpass users who are desperately wanting a properly updated PS4/PS3 app so that it matches the windows experience. I’m currently setting up a very large media library and it’s an eyesore on the PS4, where as the windows platform does a great job of keeping things looking clean and organized.

I haven’t had playback issues yet, but I also am new to setting it up…

+100 from me. I despair at every marketing email I get from Plex nowadays, as I see them add yet another niche feature, whilst completely ignoring improving their core application (y’know, the part that has the power to make media enthusiasts like me part with their cash on a monthly basis). The focus seems to be on platform omnipresence and gimmicky features, rather than just being the best at what they do, which is very disappointing.

… And to add to that, I’m one of the sorry PS4 users who feel totally forgotten and unloved by the Plex team. After 5+ years as a PP subscriber, I think I’m done with it :frowning:

Well at least we got a load of updated client, judging by the news letter sent out today.

Oh wait, everything but the PS4 or PS4 Pro…

My thoughts exactly. Considering that more people own a PS4 than a Xbox One, I really don’t understand the mentality either. It’s basically like Plex don’t want the majority of people to use their product. Odd marketing idea.

I just wanted to pop in to say that we’re sorry for the frustrations some of you are having with the app, but the PS4 app has not been abandoned and we are actively working on updates for the app.

Thank you! Finally an employee gave us an update, instead of leaving us all sitting in the dark.

Thank you! Would love som status update?

Nothing to share right now, but I will be the first to let you know!

Where can I see the release notes / change log for 1.04 that just hit PS4?

Yes, the lack of updates is painful. I only use Plex on PS4, so this is a must-have.

I don’t know what the update did, but I still get 2 Mbit/s maximum quality. It’s super frustrating to spend hours encoding BR rips with 10-15Mbit/s, only for the video player to cut everything down to VHS quality.

That sounds like it is connecting over relay which has a 2Mbit/s limit https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/

I would turn on logging in all then play something then look at server logs and we can try to confirm if that is what it is doing

It’s all on my local network. I can send you the log, though, it’s 375kb.

Addendum: on a tip from BigWheel, I entered my server’s IP address as a manual server in the PS4 app, and now it seems to run the way it should.

Brb, watching Planet Earth II…

Any idea on HDR support?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I really hope we hear something sooner, rather than later. I use my PS4 way more than my Xbox, yet the experience on latter is infinitely better. I mean, it has autoplay to start with!
