Thecus N5550 "Looking for Servers" endlessly after a few weeks away

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476
Player Version#: Web browser interface

I have been running a Plex server on my Thecus N5550 for years now, successfully without ever any issues. I dutifully update PMS each time the interface mentions a new version is available. Currently, that version is 1.14.1.5488 (as mentioned above). From my local PC (10.0.1.201), I have always been able to access my NAS at 10.0.1.250:32400/web/ (on the same subnet). This still works, and I am prompted to sign in. I enter my username and password, but then it just endlessly says “Looking for Servers” without any success. The spinner is infinite and the server is never found.

  • I have restarted both my PC, and my NAS, and the same problem persists.
  • I have also deleted all entries in my browser’s cache, cookies, local storage, and session storage for Plex.
  • I have removed all permissions from my Plex account on the web devices list.
  • I have reinstalled version 1.14.1.5488 of the server on my NAS, successfully.

Nothing works. The server is never found. BUT, what is very interesting to me is that when I add media files to the folders that are auto-scanned for the Plex libraries, I can hear the drives spin up and process the files and their metadata a few seconds after adding (like it always has). So I know the server is on and working, it’s just not… “broadcasting” to the web interface client or the apps. WHY?

I don’t think this is related to the Plex + Thecus thing everyone’s talking about for server version 1.15+, right? I’m not using that PMS version yet, and it was working before I left. So did something auto-upgrade on Plex’s end? (I never had that happen before.) Is there a plex.com “check” happening that’s denying me access to my own server, since it’s not version 1.15.x?

I’m out of ideas on what to try / check / troubleshoot, and would love feedback.
