Ok i have had issues with this on and off - I have two x NAS - One Synology and One Netgear - all issues are with Synology
Are you also using Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709)?
It would be good if we could narrow down whether or not this problem is a Windows 10 1709 + Synology problem or whether or not it’s just Synology. The fact your Netgear NAS isn’t affected can rule out non-Synology NAS’s for now.
My DS was updated to DSM 6.1.3-15152 update 8 around the same time Windows was updated to 1709. All of the problems started occurring after both those updates.

YES 1709 and latest version of DSM
Im back to not working this morning
I am one of those with the Synology NAS, and a PC running PMS on Windows 10 1709 who encountered this problem.
Originally, I had to change the MIN SMB to SMB1 to get everything working. Well, now, I have reverted MIN SMB to SMB2, I have NOT installed SMB1 on Windows 10 and EVERYTHING appears to work just fine. I did clear the SMB CACHE at some point. Now, I am no longer sure what the actual issue is especially given the various conflicting reports on this thread… My NAS1513+ is running DSM 6.1.4-15217.
I can confirm the clearing the smb cache on the nas is the fix for me. Its still been happening sporadically but as soon as I log in and clear the cache my plex media returns straight away when doing a library scan. I have just installed a DSM update, nothing specific about this issue in the release note but there are some SMB security enhancements…
Does anyone know if the Plex team are looking into this? It’s an incredibly frustrating issue and there’s plenty of troubleshooting data in this topic that should help isolate and address the issue. Or is this more likely something Synology need to fix?
I had the same problem too until I read about clearing samba cache on the NAS.
True enough, once I cleared the cache, I ran scan files on the Plex and there they are, all of my files appearing again. Won’t update to the latest DSM though, just in case.
I have same issue. SMB cache fixes it, but cannot make it stable. Very random.
I am on a 1513+ syno NAS (DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 1) and Plex Server on win 10 with 1709 update.
Plex is 1.10.1.4602
See video here clearing SMB cache and results of clear.
Just wanted to chime in and say thanks to everyone for helping to find that cleraing the SMB cache solves the issue. I’m now patiently awaiting my entire Plex library to be recreated/reimported. One thing I’m noticing is that it’s SLOW. I have several hundred movies and several thousands of eps of TV shows, and I’m watching it “create” episodes sequentially with minimal CPU, SSD/HD, and network usage. Nothing about my system is being pushed. Considering this has happened several times already, I’d love for Plex to be able to recover more quickly. Does anyone have any insight as to why it appears to be creating each episode into the database one at a time?
P.S.
I also don’t enjoy reselecting my favorite poster for each TV show since it ends up pulling the latest poster. Probably better in another area of the forum, but any idea why Plex even downloads low-res posters when high-res ones are totally available in the Edit->Poster section?
I’ve been struggling with this issue for a while now. Clearing the SMB cache is temporary but the problem the rears its ugly head again. Really hoping for a permanent fix too.
I just got my Lifetime Plex Pass yesterday, trusting Plex would work on my Synology 918+ NAS.
When I first installed the standard app from the Synology library, it did start building the directory I had some tv shows in. However, it crashed while building, so I removed the app and all that came with it (as far as I know) from the NAS and downloaded the newest version for my NAS from Plex itself. I got the 64bit Intel version.
From there on I have never seen my files anymore. I tried EVERYTHING you guys and girls talked about here, but nothing did the trick. Imagine how surprised I was there is NO customer service from Plex to ask what I can do to fix this.
Does anybody have a working solution yet? Reading this thread, the problem has existed for quite some time.
I bought my NAS to use with Plex. That’s why I got the Lifetime Plex Pass as well. So far, the NAS is good for storage, but not for its intended purpose.

The issue and fixes described in this thread involves running Plex Media Server on Windows, with media files hosted on a Synology NAS. You’re running the PMS on Synology. I think your issue is caused by something else.
I had the same problem, directories were not scanned anymore.
The reason was corruption of a database,
To check:
sqlite3 com.plexapp.plugins.library.db “PRAGMA integrity_check”
reported two corrupt indexes:
wrong # of entries in index sqlite_autoindex_fts4_metadata_titles_segdir_1
wrong # of entries in index index_metadata_items_on_changed_at
(you might get different indexes corrupt, I guess)
Solution (in my case):
Shutdown PMS
run sqlite3 com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
“reindex xxxxxx” for each corrupt index (this took only a second).
EDIT: I solved the problem finally though unfortunately I can’t pinpoint which of these steps was the exact fix:
Stopped PMS
Created a new local DSM user called “media” which is the username of my Windows PC account that runs PMS
Enabled Advanced Sharing Permissions on the share, and gave R/W access to my new media account (as well as my standard admin account, which is what I was using to map the share to Windows)
Cleared SMB cache on the shared folder again (I think I did this 20 times prior, to no avail)
Started PMS
Removed the music library and re-added it
Boom, everything is indexing finally
FYI this problem just started for me today, this is now January 2019 with much more recent versions of both DSM and PMS (and Windows 10 for that matter). None of the suggestions in this thread has fixed the problem for me. I have a new thread here about it: Music Library disappeared, can still access but not index
