TheTVDB.com blocked in China

Hi Plex Forums!

Mods, let me know if this is not the right place for this topic.

I recently realized that TheTVDB.com is now blocked in China. I was wracking my brain as to why none of the image data was being loaded by my Plex Server.

This must be a recent update to China’s Great Firewall.

Is there a way for me to remove TheTVDB.com as a source for metadata from the TV section of the Plex Media Server? As I currently reside in China, I am unable to access TheTVDB.com without a VPN. My Synology does not sit behind a VPN and works perfectly, up until now.

Please let me know if there is some workaround to NOT use TheTVDB.com.

You could use https://www.themoviedb.org/ instead. (unless that is getting blocked as well).

Edit your library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
set the ‘Agent’ to ‘The Movie Database’

Thanks, that was helpful. I was not aware you could change the Agent specifically in Edit Library. I was looking in Settings > Agents.

This helped some of my issues, though I have a couple of shows whose posters will not refresh and remain blank. I will work on that separately.

You can either perform the Plex Dance with the affected shows
or
perform the ‘Fix Match’ procedure on them, during which you click on ‘Search Options’ and then select ‘The Movie Database’ as ‘Agent’.
