TheTVDB status query

As I’m sure you guys have noticed, there’s a hell of a lot of traffic generated every time there is downtime or performance issues at thetvdb.com

Ideally, there’d be a way to inform users during a scan that these issues are with thetvdb and something to do with their setup. To this end, I’ve just posted here http://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=722 asking if there is some sort of status page available… ideally we’d be able to send them a query and get server status whenever a scraper reports it is having trouble.

That’s a good call… Half the time I don’t know when the problem is with plex or with tvdb :\

I just got a reply on thetvdb forums then, with what sounds like good news from one of the site admins:

There’s another reply now from another of their site admins:

Given that this seems to be getting the 'right' sort of attention, would someone from the dev team like to comment on what you'd like to see.

I'll try and marshal together a response of my own in the morning, but.. quick notes:

API access obviously
Overall system status code (something that can be broken down to derive the status of various backend bits of thetvdb?)
Projected service restoration time (degraded performance, complete)
Sync timestamp for this mirror
Average query time for the last 15, 5, 1 mins
Failed queries in last 15, 5, 1 mins

This looks really cool Kent!

I agree. Kent, please add this info to that thread. I like your added info more than the info that some are suggesting in that thread.

Done… but, as I said, I churned that out in about 30 seconds before crashing one night (much the same state I am in now as it happens), so I’d appreciate any other ideas people have.
