TheTVDB V3 - Post grade issues

Can you share that link please because that’s not how I know it to be (I am actively involved)

I think this might be the thread:

and this specifically

@tobiashieta was the reddit commenter!

Yup that was me. I post the sometimes. Might have gotten the exact details wrong about the fix. @ChuckPa is more involved than me so he has the best information for sure!

That was it, thank you.

And guess who he made own it ?

All serious: I’ve tested the change myself last night. It needed to run all night to run through everything I have. The next step is for Engineering to make final decision and then QA to sign off (which I’ve already done a large chunk of the testing work for).

You Rock, Chuck… thanks for pushing this to a solution.

When it’s in our hands and everyone has all the data, then we can :champagne:

There is the one dangling issue which I’m waiting to hear about as well:

Legacy backward compatibility which should also exist on TheTVDB side for those users who can’t upgrade their Plex systems.

@ChuckPa so were the SSL errors in the agent log a complete red herring?

Just curious, cause those were the errors I was seeing as well and if I still had a Ethernet hub lying around the house I would have dug out Wireshark.

ps. Thanks for all the hard work, on all sides!

Thank you for sharing the details for us, @ChuckPa.

So, in summary, next step for rest of us is just waiting for new version of PMS?

I think you deserve a vacation!

I would settle for a full night’s sleep! LOL

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-11-21_20-54-10.zip (6.3 MB)
Running Ubuntu PMS v1.18.2.2041
Cleared my cache before I tried these. All the movie posters were fixed, but TV posters still not fixed.

Looking at the logs myself, seems like an SSL handshake issue still. I didn’t find advice on how to fix that.

Thanks for all the hard work!

The “SSLv3” error text was misleading as heck. It only served to confuse.
If you examine the call, using curl or modified the python, you’d see the socket connected as TLS 1.2. The httplib was printing “SSLv3” as a blanket error message even when connected with TLS 1.2. This is what started the confusion.

Ouch, that’s rough. Can’t wait to hear more details about the root cause, sounds super interesting. Thanks @ChuckPa for the long nights and minimal sleep.

Hi there

I did wait for the new PMS version before posting anything, as @ChuckPa and TVDB Team were working so hard to fix the issue.
I did try to refresh the metadata and still get the handshake failure.
My config is:

  • Plex version: 1.18.2.2041-3d469cb32-x86_64
  • NAS version: PlexMediaServer-1.18.2.2041-3d469cb32-x86_64

Hare are my logs enclosed Plex Media Server Logs_2019-11-22_12-14-28.zip (3.9 MB) and you can see the printscreen of the tvshow I tried to update.

I don’t have any poster neither some actors pictures.

Many thanks for the hard work

My understanding is that an updated PMS hasn’t been released yet to fix this issue. Last comment from @ChuckPa was that it was in Engineerings/QA for final approvals etc.

Update 07.13 EDT - 22-Nov-2019

  1. :coffee: brewing - NEED IT
  2. Meeting yesterday between TheTVDB and Plex folks at Plex HQ
  3. Previously planned backward compatibility for deployed, rev-locked, PMS versions still in the works at TheTVDB
  4. Hand-crafted manual change can be done to address SNI in legacy PMS systems can be done. I’ve tested it and it works. It’s not desired but one possible outcome for those who are rev-locked and ok with patching their systems by hand.
  5. Previously identified API v3 improvement we can do has been tested and works. HotFix release is possible. (Need info from others about this)
  6. I am waiting for folks to wake up and update me as to what happened while I was sleeping.
  7. Pouring more :coffee:

New update 2058 is now having the TV DB working for me again. Thanks!

I upgraded to 2058 and some TV shows updated banners and others did not.

Once I cleared the cache from Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches and restarted PMS, everything is working great now.

Thanks for all the effort from all involved in troubleshooting and fixing this.

I just did the update, did Refresh Metadata and no posters or backgrounds or actor images appeared. Anything more than a refresh needed? Plex Dance?
