This has been asked 1000 times but ... how does someone fix this stupid issue of claiming the server

sure seems that way - just to be sure, this isn’t the first setup, it was all working until recently - thinking a QNAP update perhaps but here’s the results

[admin@MB-NAS Public]# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 localhost
192.168.1.155 MB-NAS MB-NAS #eth0
192.168.1.247 MB-NAS MB-NAS #eth1

FYI - I have 2 LAN’s connected to the QNAP

Any chance you’re running a VPN on the QNAP?

I’m running out of ideas on what could be wrong.

Edit: It should not matter, but disconnect Eth 1, .247, unless you have something explicitly using that address.

Please do the following from the command line in the QNAP

nslookup plex.tv 8.8.8.8

Paste full results please

Hello Chuck!

That seems to do something! To FordGuys question, no VPN but agree, it’s something on the QNAP i’m sure (it always is with those guys).

Here’s what i get back with your suggestion - any thoughts from here or should i be poking at QNAP support?

[admin@MB-NAS Public]# nslookup plex.tv 8.8.8.8
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: plex.tv
Address: 34.243.47.112
Name: plex.tv
Address: 52.49.138.125
Name: plex.tv
Address: 52.19.183.102
Name: plex.tv
Address: 52.48.60.59

Try this:

Set your QNAP DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Make sure only one network interface is connected
Restart your QNAP

Hello Everyone - SUCCESS!!!

So it would seem that the 2nd LAN connection on the QNAP was somehow the culprit here. I don’t get it but clearly just another QNAP issue/bug that I’m sure came with a recent firmware upgrade. The QNAP is also a lot more responsive in the UI now too.

Thank you all for your kind support - Dane22 I see you’re a Plex Employee - I sure hope you guys are doing something, some sort of compensation for people like FordGuy - who is helping your customers like me who gave you good money?

Good to hear things are working.

Thanks for the nice words. I’m a volunteer helping out best I can until I hit a wall. Then I call in the Big Dogs like Chuck & Dane, who actually solve the problem.

Hey FordGuy, well thank you again and don’t sell yourself short, this turned out to be well past a Plex problem. I just hope you at least get some free Plex stuff for taking your valuable time to help the community - but i still have a problem as this isn’t some open source software - i paid good money for it and i don’t feel it’s right for Plex to rely on volunteers to help their customers - that’s just crazy in my book!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend … I’m going to try to glue back in some of the hair I 've been pulling out now

Actually, @FordGuy61 did mention the dual network used first!

And it’s not a QNAP bug.
