This server is not powerful enough to convert video.....can't seem to find answer on other posts

So, this is strange because it was working fine not too long ago, but now I can’t play any videos from the WebClient on my new 3080 desktop or 3070 laptop. I mention the GPUs to denote that these are essentially brand new machines where "power’’ shouldn’t be an issue.

I can still play videos on my Nvidia Shield, Google TV, or Apple TV, but not on the TV app, either gaming console (PS5 and Series X), or on either of my computers. Since only one room in the house has the ancillary TV options, that means I can’t watch my videos anywhere else in the house.

I’ve seen mentions of adjusting transcoder settings and various other things, but I can’t find those settings anywhere in my menu. I wonder if the update “simplified” them out of existence, but I don’t know for sure.

Maybe it’s just a “me” thing, and I’m too dense to understand how to fix this. Either way, hopefully, someone can help me set this right.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me here.

The error specifically refers to the PMS Server…
What is the server OS and configuration?

If on a Windows based system, consider using Plex for Windows instead of Plex Web.

PfW direct plays most media. It also scales/tonemaps 4K HDR media for lower resolution, non-HDR displays.

Plex Web is much less capable due to web browser limitations. HEVC video transcodes (except with Safari), as does many audio formats.

Thanks for the suggestion, it works now. I had to make sure to download the windows app and not just the server for windows. That did the trick.

Now if I could only figure out how to make it work on my smarthub TV and consoles I would be all set.

Thank you very much

did you disable transcoding on the server?

No. It is set at automatic and unlimited simultaneous
