This server is unclaimed and not secure. Claiming Fails!

Server Version#: 1.20.0.3181

I’ve reinstalled repeatedly and nothing works. Gone through the Forums and lots of other’s report the same thing, but there is no solution ever presented as far as I’ve been able to determine. Someone requests the Logs (enclosed) they are sent the logs, but the forum never hears of a solution. The server worked great for months, until it just stopped and failed to run without visible error messages and then this endless loop.

Help Obi. Your my only hope.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-08-18_12-58-39.zip (3.4 MB)

Your logs show you’ve disable the security on your server. I don’t know if that affects claiming the server. I would suggest turning it back on, and try to claim it.
Then if you really don’t want the security, turn it off after.

Thanks but I have no idea what you are referring to. I have not disabled security nor can I find a place to re-enable. It’s definitely not in the Server->Settings->Network panel->Advanced. Am I looking in the right place?

Look at https://support.plex.tv/articles/200430283-network/, it’s the first setting called “secure connection”. It should be set to preferred.

Sadly, my server has no such option.

BY THE WAY There is a “tip” in the link you sent me that says, " Tip! : This setting is only available if your server is signed in to a Plex account. If you choose to set your Server to “Required”, then any Plex apps which don’t support secure connections won’t be able to connect. We recommend using the default “Preferred” setting."

Well, every time the server asks, I sign in. Is this a clue?

Can you show me the general tab?

Ok, go ahead and click on claim server from that page, then get me the PMS logs again.

There are a few errors in your log. These indicate a potential DNS issue. Possibly, the DNS your ISP provided you doesn’t like Plex and is clocking the ability to authenticate your account back to Plex.tv so the claim doesn’t work. Try changing the DNS on your router to a public one like Google’s. https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns

Done. Changed server PC DNS to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (plus the ipv6 counterparts just in case) Same problem. When I click on “Claim Server” the spinner spins and then stops with no change. The “Checking for updates” continues to say “Something went wrong” Please install manually.

I just deleted the server through the installer, deleted the Plex registry entries, deleted the Appdata folder (as per one of your support instructions), restarted the computer, re-ran the plex installer, seemed like a clean install at first but once I logged in to my account (remembered my email I assume a cookie) it also remembered the name of the server “Family Server” with music and photos as library defaults, so no way to really do a virgin restart. I assume you guys keep data on your servers linked to my account.

Heres the log once more just in case:

Is there a way to reset my account with new identifiers, etc and make it a virgin account (transferring my lifetime plex pass of course), I’ll even send you a new email address to associate it with… There are no settings I really have to save and if Plex Server can work again I’m willing to do everything over.

I’m still seeing the errors trying to contact to Plex.tv to register your server. So the issue might not be due to DNS, but it is something network related. Have you tried restarting all your equipment? mode/router and computer

Deleting the registry should have cleared that info. You cleared the correct registry , right?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.

Yes, i deleted the entire HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc. entry (it includes a “Plex Media Server” subkey.

I’ve restarted the server multiple times as well as the router during this process.

Question: How could the server not be able to resolve Plex.tv but the browser on the same computer has not trouble doing so? Is there anything specific I should be looking for? A specific port? protocol?
