Tidal Missing from Roku UNO Preview

Guys — unless I’m missing something, this is a major FU. The previous ROKU Preview supported Tidal just fine. I turn on my Roku yesterday to find this UNO preview automatically installed without any apparent way to back out to the previous preview. PLEX needs to immediately backout the UNO preview or change the released version to match the previous roku-preview that supported Tidal. I’m a lifetime plex subscriber and am paying an extra $19 / month now for a feature that I can’t use. I understand how PLEX wants to roll out new versions / features, etc. but you don’t do that by removing EXTRA PAID features / functionality. This is an example of taking 1 step forward 3 steps back.

Roku Preview is literally a Beta release, so obviously it’s going to have problems and missing features. Asking them to roll back a beta is silly. If you want something stable, then just use the main release.

The main (i.e., production - V6.2 build 7) release does not have Tidal access either. I turned in a ticket for this when I joined Plex with a Tidal subscription 4 or 5 weeks ago. The fix provided to me by Plex tech was to use Roku Preview. That worked for a couple of weeks until Preview V6.3 build 0 was rolled out. So, currently there is no way to access Tidal from Roku Plex. I’m not a happy customer. I’d be a bit happier, though, if Plex tech could at least tell us when Tidal access will once again be available from Plex Roku.

Here is the deal… I’m paying for Tidal… the previous Roku preview provided full support for Tidal. You don’t remove features for which people are paying extra - that’s ridiculous. I’m paying $19 / month extra for a service which I’m not receiving. That’s a big deal and unacceptable. It needs to be addressed immediately. WTF are they thinking?

Yeah, this is completely unacceptable. They removed Tidal for a UI change? If this goes on for more than a few days, they need to start refunding Tidal subscription fees. Whoever made the decision to push this change is completely clueless - and that’s being charitable. If they did it on purpose, not caring about removing a paid extra-addon - that’s much worse.

TIDAL was removed from our Roku Preview as we work through issues raised by Roku regarding their channel certification guidelines. We’d love to enable this today but can’t do so until we address their concerns. We don’t have a timeline for release at this time.

I am not authorized to discuss billing details. Billing concerns/questions can be sent here.

I appreciate your quick reply - obviously, the people who have Roku and the Tidal add-on want it to work. If it weren’t for PLEX I would have never have signed up for Tidal. Pursuing a refund / cancellation is not my preferred course of action. The standard “we don’t have a timeline for release at this time” at this point really isn’t a reasonable response. The cat is already out of the bag. You’ve got people who were using the Roku / Tidal functionality having that ripped away from them. Getting this resolved should be a top priority of PLEX. You’ve already had Tidal on the Roku Preview for months - why can’t Elan pick up the phone and get in touch with Wood for a waiver until you folks can reach comity. That would be much better than having your customers pursue refunds, waiting and then resubscribing.

Is Tidal not showing in the released Plex version 6.2.x?

Yes, it is not showing.

Tidal is still not working in the lastest Roku preview released today (March 15th). Just cancelled my Tidal add-on subscription since I obviously can’t use it anymore. Plex, you’ve handled this situation atrociously. BTW, be advised there aren’t any Tidal refunds - so if you want to make sure going forward that you don’t get charged for something that was unceremoniously removed, cancel now.

@ljunkie is Tidal really still missing?

Sorry for the delays, but it’s here (again). TIDAL is now available on the Roku.

FINALLY! Using it now… works great. Thanks!

Good to hear, and happy to know it’s working great.

One thing I have noticed is that when playing from a playlist:

Playback Error

We’re unable to play this track, make sure the server is running and has access to the track.

The track in question is:

Money In The Bank (feat. AJ Tracey) - Midnight Sparks

This track won’t play at all, so probably something wrong on the Tidal side, but wanted to LYK just in case.

I checked with the Tidal app and that track isn’t on the playlist there, so I’m assuming that they must have yanked the song or something - kind of a drag though because when there is a playlist error it stops the whole thing until you step in and manually correct.

Yeah but look at this way… just like in Spotify, those tracks are greyed out, but the point is that at the very least you are aware of the one not available and they get your attention. Other wise it would bother me if I had a playlist of 4,534 tracks but one, just one is unplayable and completely stops the playlist from playing. To hunt down the track would suck. This is why I don’t subscribe to music streaming services at all. Note, at least with video streaming services they give a warning a month in advance of what’s leaving their catalogue.

Actually, there is a problem - the playlists on Tidal and Plex Tidal don’t match. I’m guessing that it’s some type of sync problem. It isn’t specific to Roku but rather the Plex integration. I’ll open up a problem ticket there.
