Tidal on Samsung plex app - Multimedia file format not supported

Hi,

I have Q80A series Samsung TV. It is 2021 model. All local media playback on TV works fine (had some issues but resolve them already) but there is this one thing i cant get pass.

I have Tidal HiFi Plus subscription (the highest available) bought directly from tidal, not via plex. I’ve connected it to my plex account and it works flawlessly on windows desktop app, browser client. android app, but not on Samsung plex app.

For some Tidal songs i get " Multimedia file format not supported" error. Some songs works fine and if it works, it works. Some can’t be played though.

On other devices and apps those songs work so i’m assuming that it is Samsung plex app specific problem.
Those songs works on Samsung Tidal app but not plex app.

I had same error for local video playback and directplay / directstream options resolve it but same solution doesn’t work for Tidal. Probably different cause.

I have latest version of both app on TV and server.
Reinstalled it on TV to check if it helps - it did not help.

any ideas?

i have noticed that it is probably not playing FLAC files (regardless of if it is hifi or master)

Have done manual TV firmware update to latest version as well but it change nothing.

Can you please enable logging to server (selecting your server) then grab the server logs after you get the error.

i don’t see the Samsung logs in there. did you enable it in the Samsung app then reproduce issue before getting logs fro server?

Yes , twice.
And had the console open to see the add logging.

Clear the log.
Activate it
Log off , log in
Go to Tidal pane
Select a song
And error appeared
Select another song
Same,
Then took photo

Will do it again.

Don’t know if you have change something because i was a little surprised today. Maybe it is something else so lets start from the top.

When i started this topic i had tidal hi-fi plus sub but i was still on first 30-day trial, first week of it. It didn’t worked and no one have bother to at least reply in this topic so i lost any hope.
In addition to this TIDAL wanted to charge me over twice amount that was advertised. In my country HIFI plus is advertised and sold for around 8 bucks, not 20 like in many other places.
I was not ok with higher price when they advertise different.
On Tidal you don’t choose country but it is detected automatically… and at this point my account was Italian with higher price.
Tidal support told me that i have to create new account because they can’t change location assigned to my account. That was ok with me.
I have tried and i have hit a wall because i got new account, with correct country detected but i wasn’t been able to pay via paypal (only option for me) because my paypal was already liked to different Tidal account and apparently you cant have two tidal subscriptions on one paypal. I have removed it but it didn’t helped. Tidal checkout would not accept my paypal. This was during 2 or 3 week of the trial on old account.
I have lost hope again and this time i told myself, screw them. i will not continue with their service but i had still another week of trial.
Trial has ended but weirdly enough i could still use it on my mobile with songs that have been downloaded for offline mode. It worked for another month an then ended as well.
Today i thought “let’s try one last time”
I logged to this new account i have created and saw option to expand my trial to another 3 months for 6 bucks and after that will be 8 bucks.
Then i went to checkout and this time it had accepted my paypal.
Then i went to plex and found and hit re-authorised tidal account. It automatically removed my old and linked my new account an for last hour i was able to play those songs on samsung plex, that previously had errors.

TLDR:

  • new tidal account
  • titdal account Geo-localisation matches my plex language
  • unlinked old and linked new by re-authorised link on this page

For anyone having problems i would suggest trying this re-authorise link even on same account.
If that doesn’t help maybe start trial on new account and check then (tidal support have ability to transfer all playlist etc from old to new account)

If this wont help then i don’t believe its actually language mismatch but lets wait for devs opinion.

I couldn’t wrap my head around this at first, because my Samsung app manager shows that i have 5.31.1 version installed and latest available is 5.31.1 (not 5.44.6 as it should) . There is “reinstall” option available but after using it, it shows the same. No manual update option available but i had global auto-update enabled.

This is rather minor bug, probably some cache issue on samsung part, because when i have check version from app level it shows correct latest version 5.44.6
