Tidal through Plex question

I subscribed to Tidal through Plex. So I can enjoy music from Tidal using Plexamp and Plex apps. However, is it possible for me to use the Tidal app to access that subscription? I tried and it wants me to subscribe again to Tidal.

I signed up for Tidal through Plex and use the Tidal app on my Nvidia Shield, Wndows computer and Samsung phone. It’s been a couple years since I got that going though, and have a difficult time remembering what I ate for breakfast.

My best guess on what I did was use my email addrees tied to Plex for the user id, and then selected the “forgot password” option when logging in. Set up a password and I was up and running.

I did what you said and it does not recognize the fact that I pay through Plex. It thinks I have a free account. I’m surprised this is not documented anywhere. I am sending Tidal support an email to see what the resolution is.

I’ve done some Google searching myself and have come up empty handed. Perhaps this would make a good episode for Unsolved Mysteries.

I did find my email from Tidal after I signed up through Plex telling me I could log in with my user id, which happens to be my email. Also found the email where I did the password reset. Those were late 2018 - early 2019 though.

I am definitely interested in knowing your solution to one of the Internet’s best kept secrets.

Here’s what I am told:

When creating the subscription billed by Plex, the user gets redirected to TIDAL’s site, where the user chooses/creates the TIDAL account associated with the subscription. They’d then use that TIDAL account on TIDAL’s website/apps.

So my take on this is that only you can know the tidal account credentials to use, as the account that is used is wholly your own.

I already know what my TIDAL credentials are. However, that is not the problem. The problem is that TIDAL believes I have a free account, therefore, it plays commercials when I play music through the TIDAL app. I reached out to TIDAL support and their only answer was that when the TIDAL account is created, it should give me an option to link it to Plex. However, that’s not how it works. When I created my TIDAL account, there was no option to link it to Plex. I looked everywhere. The only way the two accounts can be linked is through the Plex site, not the other way around. So in the Plex site, when I tried to link my Plex account to TIDAL, I was asked to create TIDAL credentials on the TIDAL website, which I did. Once Plex said the accounts are linked, I thought things would work fine. However, when I go to the TIDAL site, and login, it says I have a free account. TIDAL refuses to recognize that I pay through Plex so it believes I am a free subscriber.

I explained this to TIDAL support and they said to reach out to Plex support because they are the only ones that can give me access to TIDAL outside Plex. So I just sent Plex billing support a message. Let’s see what they say. TIDAL support claims that only Plex can give me access.

I have a feeling this is going to be one of those cases where companies point the finger at each other because they have no clue what the problem is and I will just be stuck in the middle without a resolution.

Now, before someone asks, why don’t I just use PlexAmp to access TIDAL, I already do that through my phone and all works great. However, my car has a TIDAL app built in, and I cannot sign in to it because TIDAL believes it is a free account.
