Tiles (posters) should be consistent across media types and Plex Players

I always ue my own self-created “tiles” or “posters” for all media selections, in all media types. Why do my individual poster files appear in different configurations across media types (audio, movies, TV shows)?

On my iPad Sometimes audios and photos are square. Everything else is rectangular-vertical.

But on my Roku TV they are not the same. The audios are square. However, all the videos/movies are rectangular-horizontal. For some reason, the TV Shows (actually serial movies) show up as rectangular-vertical.

On my Sony (using a Roku Uktra) they show up the same as they do on the Roku TV.

Is there a way to standardize/harmonize the way these graphics show up?

If not, might Plex developers fix this?

Square is fine. Rectangular-vertical is the best. Rectangular-horizontal is dreadful.

I suppose I could load every movie as a TV show (with only one episode). Then the tiles/posters for all videos would be rectangular-vertical.

The poster aspects generally follow industry norms. Buy a music CD, you get a square (or nearly square) cover. Buy a movie or TV show on DVD, the package and cover are generally vertical. If Plex were to standardize on one or the other, they’d have to crop, stretch, or otherwise modify the posters that don’t fit. Personally, I would hate that.

The “Other Videos” Plex library type uses horizontal posters (usually screen captures from the video) because that’s the format people generally shoot. Since they’re personal, there usually isn’t a poster.

I don’t know why your commercial movies are coming up with horizontal posters, unless you used the “Other videos” library type.

The posters should be consistent across clients. If not, it’s likely a bug. Can you provide screenshots so we can see what you mean? Also include version number for all clients involved.

I would love that the Other Videos library had the option for the poster look. Especially since it used to have this and not all my custom posters are junk.

Perhaps I am always using “Other Videos” setting unaware there is an alternative. Thanks for the thought.
