Time to ditch Plex and move to Emby?

As the title says, is it time to ditch Plex for Emby? I think so!

Well i like many, many, many people have updated Plex and now remote access does not work… Read all of the threads, tried all of the guides, opened all of the ports… you name it i’ve done it! Only thing that appears to work is downgrading to a much older version.

So it appears this problem has been happening for well over a year and yet there is no simple fix.

After spending hours reading all these threads one thing is apparent - Plex technical support hasnt bothered to reply to anyone or actually fix their product.

Personally i find this really insulting, especially from a company that wants us to pay for their product. Having been a subscriber myself, i will no longer pay for this excuse of a media server application and I’ll be moving to Emby - Yes its not as pretty or doesnt have as many features but yet the technical support on their forums leaves Plex for dead…

Seriously, plex pull your finger out and do your job.

Have you tried putting your Plex server on DMZ? That would tell you a few things if it works. If you have a sep modem and router, you could also just hard wire straight from the modem and test that out, but DMZ is similar in a way.

I don’t know what your setup is (Router&modem, Router/Modem combo, Firewalls…etc), but I’ve never had issues w/ mine.

Netgear X6
Windows 10 PMS (1.15.6.1079 PMS version)
port forwarding 32400
no firewalls

I really encourage everyone to try Emby, the grass might or might not be greener. In reality it’s just a different pasture, different problems.

In order to solve your specific problem, you need to provide more information about your setup. NAT piercing is an extremely hard thing to get working for all setups. Without knowing what setup you have in place all we can do is guess and provide worthless opinions.

For examples, I have a setup that works consistently without any tweaking or manual steps. Which is quite surprising considering my current setup… But like I said, please even if it feels like repeating the obvious, please provide more information that way it’s easier to help you.

With so little information it is nearly impossible to offer assistance.
But this tells the true story.

Thank you for messaging me @SE56 . I’ll edit my comment.

I have had issues with the Plex Team’s support. The forum threads speak for themselves. There are so many instances in where multiple customers have asked for help about a bug they are all experiencing and a Plex Team member chimes in about looking into it and several months pass, some even a year, and there is no response. Just look through the livetv-dvr threads about watching in-progress DVR recordings for some examples. I have been a Plex supporter for many years and I am frustrated.
