I have PMS with movies, and I really like the idea of having all titles localized in my primary language so family members and friends who are non-English speakers can understand. But for those who are into English like me, I always search the movie in English as it’s the most popular way to identify the movie (like IMDb). So what if you could make the Original Title (in English) displayed under the Title (localized in my primary language)? That would be awesome!

I’d like to suggest a feature that would enhance the movie library browsing experience, especially for multilingual users or movie enthusiasts who appreciate original titles.

Currently, Plex allows users to set a primary language for the media server, which determines how movie titles are displayed. However, for movies with translated titles, it would be fantastic to have the option to display both the translated title and the original title simultaneously in the library view.

For example:
If the media server is set to Italian, a movie like “The Shawshank Redemption” (original title) would display as “Le ali della libertà” (Italian title). With the suggested feature enabled, Plex could show both titles below the movie poster:

Le ali della libertà
(The Shawshank Redemption)

This could be implemented as an optional setting under library preferences or metadata display options, giving users the flexibility to toggle this feature based on their preferences.

Why this feature would be valuable:

  1. It caters to bilingual users or film buffs who often recognize movies by their original titles.
  2. It provides a more informative and enriched browsing experience.
  3. It aligns with Plex’s commitment to delivering a customizable and user-friendly platform.

I can foresee another feature request:
What happens if the original title uses a different alphabet? Shall it show e.g. “Tonari no Totoro”, or rather “となりのトトロ”?

For original titles that use a non-Latin alphabet, such as Japanese, Cyrillic, or others, I think Plex could offer a couple of flexible options in the settings to cater to different user preferences:

  1. Show Original Script: Display the title in its native script (e.g., “となりのトトロ”). This would be ideal for users familiar with the original language or those who prefer authenticity.
  2. Show Romanized Title: Display a transliterated version (e.g., “Tonari no Totoro”). This would help users who don’t read the original script but still want to recognize the title.
  3. Show Both: Display both formats together, for example:

となりのトトロ (Tonari no Totoro)

This approach gives users the freedom to choose what works best for their library. It could even follow the same logic as subtitles, where Plex lets users choose their preferred language or script.

I think this would enhance the proposed feature while maintaining accessibility for all users. What do you think?

The UI should display both original and localized Show/Movie title (name). Search does, but content detail pages do not.
