Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437 Plex Media Server Logs_2020-10-20_08-26-58.zip (1.2 MB)
Player Version#: Plex for Tivo 3.13.14
I have had problems since monday getting plex to play on my tivo devices. Roku and kindle for plex work fine and the Tivo boxes can play other streaming services just not Plex.
“it’s a sign in problem - the system is trying to connect to Plex.tv for the login and failing. My only options on the app are retry, fails back to the same screen. Go Home witch fails back to the same screen. Sign In, which does nothing when pressed.”
Tivo has not been supported for some time. 3.13 is a very old app version. We recently disabled TLS 1.0 and only support 1.2 which that device probably does not support so it cannot load the app fully.
@BigWheel thank you that makes sense i am assuming TLS 1 was disabled over the weekend. now i am left without Plex on those devices until either the tv or cable company we use for tivo upgrades the application.
@eisenb11 sounds like tivo needs to upgrade their application.
@BigWheel is the TLS something in the plex server or backend that was disabled? if on my local server (thinking it is not at my server side) can i re-enable it?
We don’t currently make any app for TiVo. There is no guarantee it will work on newer TiVo devices. I strongly suggest getting a streaming device like a Roku.
At best, it sounds like the Mini V1/V2 units would need a SW update. I suspect, however, that this is likely due to a HW limitation - in which case no more Plex on those Minis.
I just spent the last 2 hours talking with various people at my Cable company asking about how to get a new Tivo box. According to Tivo they do not write the app but it should work on all boxes regardless of age. They now are saying my hardware must have gone bad Sunday night!!! Got to love that now Cable company is sending someone with the same version of boxes out to swap mine. Suggest you call Tivo or if provided by a cable company call them to complain. This one was from Sparklight prior Cable One
I started having this same issue a few days ago… Glad to understand why. I am running Plex server 1.20.3.3437, installed last night to try and fix this issue.
After reading this thread, I notice in the server settings, under “Network” “Advanced” there is a check box that says “Disable weak TLS versions” and mentions TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in description. But I do not have this checked and still have the issue. Should that help? Or something else? My Plex server is running only inside my home network, so I am not too worried about insecure connections from my devices, but not sure what other implications there could be… Anyway, doesn’t help from what I can see.
Tivo support is terrible. They claim the PLEX app is not theirs, but when I bought the Tivo Bolt DVR and Tivo Minis several years ago they were promoting it. They even have it listed in their knowledge base: Tivo Customer Support Community. Really disappointed in Tivo. Even their new Tivo streaming device seems “late to the party”. It does not work with their DVRs, and so why would anyone buy it over established streaming devices like Roku? Anyway, Tivo rant over…
Maybe outside the scope of Plex… I do have one roku that works great… We are thinking to upgrade again and will likely get a new Sony Android TV, but for watching Live TV and local channels, I guess the only option is keep the Tivo Bolt, or switch to Comcast/Xfinity devices. Any suggestions? Any other devices out there supporting cable card where I would not have to rent Xfinity devices?
Yep, me too… Although the Tivo app does not have an updated version, I did receive a Tivo update recently. I noticed it because guide looks a bit different on side edges. My Tivo Minis and the Bolt are all working again.
