I’ve been ripping dvd’s to 720x480 and 4MBps or original quality (lower than 4MBps) mp4, but I’m finding I still have to optimize on most to get to play in Tivo client. I rip bluray to mkv and then optimize at custom, Universal TV, 720p, 4MBps.
The mkv optimization creates an mp4 in the optimized folder. When selecting play through Tivo, it picks the optimized version correctly.
However, the DVD’s ripped and then optimized to 4MBps or original quality (both being mp4’s), tivo does not select the optimized version to play. It’s as if it thinks it can play the original mp4 and always tries that.
The workaround would be to move the optimized into the root folder for the movie and delete the original mp4, it just seems that if the Tivo cannot play the original mp4, it should try the one in the optimized folder.
