Too Many Streams Error

Server Version#: Version 1.28.1.6104
Player Version#: Any/All

Whenever the server has a “Remote Streams per User” set (2+), some users receive “Too Many Streams” error despite no active streams.

Only fix is to restart the server.

Issue has only appeared with the latest version of PMS

Is this the only fix? I have reset my password, logged out of all devices, and removed all the authorized devices.

@Antigravity_83

There was a partial outage of Plex.tv which impacted all Remote Access.
Have you restarted PMS with in the past 2 hours ?

If yes, Can you:

  1. Make certain DEBUG logging is on (so we can capture the error)
  2. Recreate the error
  3. Now downgrade to the previous version
  4. Start playback again (only 20 seconds needed) to confirm it is this version.
  5. Download the Logs ZIP file (containing both failure and success) and attach here?

@Mayonnaise99

Are you having this same issue too?

I had this error two weeks ago. Would this partial outage have effected me back then?

Without seeing the logs, there is no way to answer that.

This issue manifested in a very specific way.

A lot of positives came out of the discussion around this issue.
I’m looking forward to what was discussed. It’ll be good for everyone.

I am having the same issue as well. I can download something and then play it, but cannot play anything live.

I cannot yet speak to anything “live”.

Please forgive me… I’m overloaded with basic PMS operation isssues.

May I come back to you later today?

This happens to my users whenever they download something (regardless of which client they use). Downloads seem to count towards the “Remote Streams per User” limit, even after they are finished or deleted from the device or even if the client has not yet started downloading (e.g. if on cellular network). Only a server restart will help. This issue has been going on for a long time (there are countless threads about it in the forum and I am surprised you are not aware of this @ChuckPa ). Please look into this, it might be easy to fix.

Clarify for me the following sequence?

  1. Remote User streams content
  2. Remote user now sync (download)-- which includes transcoding.
  3. After sync has finished,
  4. Attempt to playback anything else results in ‘too many streams’ error ?

What is the max number of streams per user currently set to ?
(so I can attempt to replicate)

I am having this error when accessing a friend’s server from my Windows PC. My android devices have access .
I can access my server locally and remotely.

@Emauss

Sounds like a configuration error on your friend’s server.
Easiest to do is compare yours and his (one-for-one) over the phone.

His server is configured properly. He is allowing enough streams. I can access it through my phone and DL there, too but neither option exists on my PC.

Additionally I can DL from his server on my phone, but no option on the PC. He has the same thing happening. He can dl from me on his phone (and other various Android locations, but no option for dl on any PC. ???

So that’s a player issue then and it’s Windows.
.

Unfortunately I can’t help with either (primarily because it’s windows).

Would you like me to move this to the Windows Player section?

(Server logs, if the server runs on Linux, is how I can help to see if this is a server problem)

Ok. He is running Linux, but I will repost my issues in the Windows forum.
FWIW he can dl from my server only on Android. The option doesn’t exist on his Linux machine.

Downloads are only supported on one app: “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux”.
They aren’t available in Plex HTPC, nor in the web app.

He’s running Linux and I can dl from him on my android phone but not on my Windows 10 PC

Then you are using the wrong type of app on your PC.

???
I’m running 4.93.2 Plex server and the built in player…???
