I’ve NEVER had the Top Shelf, to the point where I didn’t know Plex had the functionality. Was visiting my family for Christmas, and realized it on their Apple TV. So I completely reinstalled the TVOS software on mine to see if that was the issue. Worked for a couple of days, and it eventually disappeared.
After reading this thread, it immediately came back after I changed back to Automatic on the Home Screen management. But considering I don’t want “Recent Channels” at the top of my Home Screen, I’m not sure that’s a long term option for me.
This was actually an intermittent issue, it works without any hiccups as long as auto manage is on. Too bad Plex hasn’t addressed this as I have more than 8 libraries and don’t want to see my least used one to appear on the top in the home page.
It looks like the latest update 7.12 (22653) fixed this bug. I just manually managed the Home Hub and so far everything works fine along with the top shelf. Hope it doesn’t start acting up again.
Nope, still the same bug. As soon as I played a video then exit Plex, the top shelf disappeared again. Changed to automatically manage the home hub and started working right away.
Here’s my experience with the bug on 7.12 (22653) and tvOS 14.4.
With my Plex home screen set automatically manage, Top Shelf works. I see On Deck, Recently Added in Movies, and Recently Added in TV Shows.
If I switch to manually manage, I can do a few things and still have it work. I can remove some of the default hubs. I can reorder and have the changes reflected on the Top Shelf (e.g. reorder On Deck to be second).
But as soon as I add one of my preferred non-standard hubs — in particular, Recently Released Episodes and Recently Released Movies — the default On Deck stops showing up on the Top Shelf. The newly added hubs, Recently Released Episodes and Recently Released Movies, don’t work either.
Top Shelf, for me, seems to be working and not working in the same way the past couple of months. It seems to work for a while, and then it stops working. If I go into Plex and reset home screen customizations and manually manage the hub, Top Shelf works for a bit, and then at some point stops working.
I noticed with one of the updates to the Apple TV app that the Top Shelf items that were on display were the background images (which I liked and preferred), but now it’s the poster of the video. Not a huge deal, just an observation.
This issue really bothered me in the past because it was 100% broken. Now I can get it work, but then it breaks again. I wonder if deleting the app and re-installing makes things more stable, but I’m a bit reluctant to try that since I’m using One Home Screen on 3 of my Apple TVs.
Broken for me now., first time it’s happened to us. Stopped working a couple of updates ago, was hoping last week’s would fix it, but no joy. Works if I switch to manually manage the Home Screen, but as soon as I switch back It disappears again. Same for all users on my server.
