Did a full uninstall and reinstall. Still not working. They were working for a while like 9 months ago…then there was an update and they stopped working. I completely removed PLex…deleted the appdata folder…reinstalled…and still doesn’t work. Can any1 get trailers working for me…Right now I have 24 movie libraries and 24 trailer libraries and it’s very inconvenient a solution would be much appreciated.
What is your movie folder structure?
it’s all correct I followed the naming guidelines. Like I said it worked before…then…an update happened and it stopped working.
This is why I asked…
When you say Trailer Libraries I’m not sure what that means…
Anyway I have no problem selecting movie trailers…
the trailer is inside the movie folder named correctly with -trailer tag (otherwise they wouldn’t have worked before)
One day all my Extras and Trailers were removed from all my movie pages.
So I copied all the trailers in each library…and made new Libraries just for trailers, thus the trailer libraries.
Having a library with only trailers which are actually tagged as Local Media Assets (e.g. Movie Name (year) > Theatrical Trailer-trailer.ext
) is definitely not going to work.
From what you describe, it’s more likely you messed up some of the settings of your original library. Can you e.g. confirm you still have Local Media Assets enabled in Settings
> Server
> Agents
> Movies
for the primary agent used by your library (e.g. Plex Movie or The Movie Database)?
Yes on all 3 things Local Media is selected. and I think you’re missing the point of the Trailer Libraries…the Trailer Libraries are copies of whats already in each movie folder put into a folder and added as simple “Video” libraries…they’re not pulling metadata they’re just there for reference in alphabetical order.
If I had trailers working I’d just delete them.
I’m probably confused on how you have your library set up, but it sounds like you have a total of 24 movies, and each one of those movies is in a library of it’s own. And you have 24 trailers. and each of those is in a library by itself.
If that’s the case, it’s not how libraries are usually set up, nor how Plex expects to find them. I would expect at some point in time, the trailers and extras would just quit working, even if they did work for a little while.
-_- … the point is the trailers not working, doesn’t matter if they’re all Adam Sandler movies…doesn’t matter if they’re from 1962…Would appreciate if any1 who knows how to fix trailers could chime in.
as I said, i could be confused.
I do know, that I have a couple of thousand movies over 4 libraries, and local trailers and extras work exactly as expected with all of them. And I use a combination of the “-trailer” extension and the sub-folder method, depending on my mood the day I add them to Plex.
I’m sure there’s someone who will help you sort it out.
In that case…
Please share the actual naming of one of those libraries, giving one specific example with the full path and file names (incl. info to which folder in that structure the Plex library is actually pointing).
Comedy / Balls of Fury (2007) 1080 / Balls of Fury (2007) 1080-FGT.mp4
Comedy / Balls of Fury (2007) 1080 / Balls of Fury (2007) 1080-FGT-trailer.mp4
Does Plex show any other extras you add to that movie folder? e.g.
Comedy
Balls of Fury (2007)
Balls of Fury (2007).mp4
Balls of Fury (2007)-trailer.mp4
Making of-featurette.mp4
Deleted Scenes
Alternate Ending.mp4
Scene 01.mp4
Christopher Walken-interview.mp4
You don’t need to actually have those files… just copy a video file and rename it accordingly.
Also… can you please check if those mp4 files have an embedded title that could interfere with the association?
scanning then refreshing the metadata with those files (copied the trailer and renamed) did not work. Also, I remove all the title/comments data from my mp4’s because I was having trouble before with titles using their original file naming conventions. I checked and there were no title details.
ok… that’s not good but it shows there’s no particular issue with trailers. your trouble is with local media assets in general.
before getting more drastic
can you do me one last favor and check if a Plex Dance will resolve the current situation?
- move the library folder’s content to some place not monitored by the Plex Media Server
- scan the library files and wait for it to complete
- empty trash and clean bundles
- move the files back into the library folder
- scan the library files again
–
considering you’re using a test library you could also delete that library and create it from scratch.
does that show the trailers and extras?
If it doesn’t… please go to Settings
> Manage
> Troubleshooting
, click Download Logs
and upload the resulting zip-file here (or send it as a DM if you prefer that).
I’ll do all that when I get a chance. Isn’t it enough that i fully uninstalled already? Why do I gotta do all this -_-
